Imperial Tie fighter

Man, that thing is real beauty. I've personally never seen that odd horizontal line...not in any of the pics I have or in any of the reference books. I don't even think the 1/72 version has that. I'm guessing it's like what Nicholas said, a molding issue that extends to all of the wings. (Strange that it doesn't extend the entire length of the wing).

I am not sure it is a mold issue, the AMT kit has it too, that is when I first noticed it. It it was only on the fine molds kit then I would say that it is a mold issue, but it's not. I haven't uploaded the video clip of the AMT kits wings yet, it is in the next update of the Saturday afternoon Model club, but that line is very clearly there.

Like all of you, I can't find it in any of the reference materials, but I also can't find a clear shot of the inside of the solar panels either.....

On the AMT kit it went to the inside.

I'm sure you've already browsed through Modeler Magic, and none of the inner wing shots showed any line like that (though they weren't the best).

I found this, which I think is one of the studio models, no lines though: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_YF1tNfQVN8w/TMiUfrQbnNI/AAAAAAABeh0/4ZGJh9tIGOE/s400/4.jpg

And even the eFX version doesn't have lines: http://www.rebelscum.com/tie_fighter_studio_scale_model_efx.asp

In searching, I did come across this unique shot of the full-scale cockpit I had never seen before: http://img133.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=18226_ANH33_122_395lo.JPG#

Another side-note, I never knew "Lockheed" was stamped on 4 pieces on the outside of each wing eFX model. I wonder what kit they bashed those from.

Thanks for the links, I have looked at all of them before and many more. I can't find that line anywhere, and yet it is on both the AMT model and the fine molds. It makes me wonder where they got their source material from.

Could it have possibly been from a studio model that was not circulated and yet they allowed AMT and Fine Molds to study it for their kits? Even screen caps don't show it.

The line didn't remove with primer and I didn't want to use too much primer or I would lose details on the panels, so that line will be there. No way to remove it. All the other scuffs and scratches went away with primer. The line is too deep to cover up. You can't sand it out either, you will remove details....

Another thing to think about, that line only goes through part of the bottom and not the whole thing. Fine Molds makes well detailed models, and most of the solar panels are beautiful to say the least. They could have retooled and removed the line. It is there deliberately. One per panel on one side only, and it does not go all the way across the panel.

I know they FX model didn't have it, I read through a 10 page discussion of the FX model and the paint colors on it. They went to crazy lengths to do that one right. Hence the lockheed on the end and the tiny decals all over the place.

Very nice work on the cockpit resin and PE; it turned out quite well!

Thanks! I should be able to get photos up of the finished cockpit in a day or two. The glue is curing right now.

Thanks Biskup!

Here is the next update, this time the solar panels:

It is a very useful tool once you get to working with PE. Thanks!!!

Here is the next update: http://youtu.be/8PqLlpMuDKw

Basically how to use that tool.

Thanks!! It is almost ready for paint, just a tiny bit of wiring to do now.

Here is a sneak peak at where I am with it:
