I'm just about to start in to the panel lining and weathering on this one. Nice, easy, and relatively inexpensive kit. Beats the Tamiya kit in that the wheel well is open and the HB kit includes a plug for the rear of the engine.

Thanks for stopping in and taking a look.

Thanks a bunch Scott and Nicholas, it's nice to have some modelling momentum again. ;D
The Vallejo RLM model air paints went on great.

OOh nice Dora JMac!! Can't wait to see her worn down a bit :p

I'm going to go fairly light handed on the weathering for this one, as I believe the D-11 never made it into service...
Might change my mind...

nice work Jason , The camo looks great mate . Im doing the Tamiya 190D at the minute for a customer ,but this kit looks much nicer !

Chris.

Thanks Chris. :)
You should post up some pics of the Dora you're building when you have a few free moments. I know I'd like to see it.

What do you think of the Flory washes Jason ? Not keen on them myself .

I'm not sure yet Chris. I used a grime wash (borrowed from a friend) on my last few builds; on the Tamiya He219 build it worked great, on my Hobbycraft A-4 and Tamiya X-32 (a current wip) it badly stained the finish. That being said it was fairly old bottle, and I understand that the formulation has been changed. All of the build had been finished the same way, Vallejo MC or MA with a Future/Klear gloss coat over top (the gloss was always left to cure more than 24 hours). As well, it's possible that the bottle might have been cross-contaminated with something else...

So far so good on the D-11, the only issues I'm seeing is that the dry wash wipes out of the panel lines really easily. That could be my fault however, I did (accidentally) go extra heavy in some areas with the gloss - I might have slightly flooded some lines.

I would like to try some of the other panel line/wash product out on the market, the only problem is my hobby bench is in a shared room and I'm concerned about enamel odor and cleanup...

Chris -what's you go to wash/panel liner at the moment?

Jason

Yes I had problems with it wiping off too and seemed very grainy ? Just couldnt get on with it at all . I still prefer enamel / oil washes ,usually AK Interactive ...Hard to beat a tried and tested formula :)

I've used the Flory wash quite successfully myself. In fact most of my builds I've used the clay wash for the panel lines and used the AK products for weathering. Although I don't expect it change the color of the panels, I do like the slightly dirty look it can give the overall model. Even when it's nearly all cleaned off.

Chris & Suavetomcat - Thanks for the feedback/info. Here's how the panel lines turned out;

Sorry about the picture quality, I just used my phone.
So far, I'm pretty happy with the result, not stunned or ecstatic, but satisfied. I'll likely go over some panels and locations another time with the Flory wash. Seems the cotton swabs I used the second time made a big improvement in terms of wiping the clay out from the shallower lines. I might help the Flory washes out with a little directed application of some Vallejo Model Wash.

Hope to finish this build up next week. Now I think I have to put some paint on an RAH-66 :)

A little beauty Jason ...The FW that is !! ;D Looks like the Flory works well for you .

Chris,

Thanks. Doras are one of my favourite Axis aircraft, along with 109's.

I should have some final reveal pictures ready in the next couple weeks.

Looking forward to it mate. I got the Tamiya 190f there the other day. I fancy adding the rivet detail on it, but I'm still trying to find good 1/48 scale drawings of the rivet patterns.

Chris

Hey Nick. I have come across the hgw rivet sets, but I don't know anyone who has used them before. Have you had any success with them yourself? Just not sure how it would look being a positive river rather than the impression of a countersunk one. I am tempted to try them though.

Chris
