Being new to airbrushing I guess I'm not sure how to go about making my fan spray wider I can only use 0.3 needle in my airbrush, I'm using an Iwata eclipse but I'm wondering if there is a fan tip that might allow for a bigger fuller spray.

Not AFAIK. You can adjust the width of the spray somewhat by varying the air pressure and/or thickness of the paint, though.

If you want to spray whole models in one colour, you would likely be better off using a less sophisticated airbrush for that.

If you need wide coverage you need an AB that offers a fan air cap .
the larger .5 needle in that one above will spray a wider line than your .3 , on average , but not anywhere near what a dedicated fan air will .
I always recommend the Paasche Talon with the full suite of needles -- it gives you a fan air cap for use with the .66 needle and spray tip .

Here's my newness showing through. What is a fan air cap?

It's the air cap that creates a fan spray , lulz .

It has different geometry from a normal air cap to create a very wide spray pattern -- they will always use a larger needle and spray tip ,
looks like this ( for Iwata ) :

Urumomo told me about the Paasche Talon. I like that it came with three needles and the fan air cap. It works great. I had to clear coat my project last night so I put on the number 3 needle without the fan cap and it worked great. For bigger projects like say a B-29 wing or body that fan cap would be perfect. I haven't tried it yet but that B-29 is sitting up on the Shelf waiting to be built. I do a lot of 132nd scale airplanes and that air cap is going to come in real Handy.

Word of caution. It likes operating at above 20 psi. With that fan air cap? It'll blow air like a sumbitch. You will need a good compressor that will keep up not these little cheapies that are out there

For spraying large areas, you can also buy a simple modeller's spray gun, something like a Badger 250:

Similar ones are also sold by other manufacturers.

For Christmas my wife went ahead and got me the Paasche talon 3AS with the fan cap accessory so I'm really hoping that this solves most of my coverage problems. I believe it will and I want to thank everybody for their recommendations.

I discovered recently that Paasche has a 1mm needle and tip for that Talon --- if you need even more paint flow

That's great to know because I'm really concerned about covering the 1:12 scale '69 Camaro Z/28 without noticeable banding

I use the fan air on that .66 mainly for other art pieces -- I rarely use it for scale stuff other than ground work on bases .
It covers a lot .
If you get noticeable banding , see a doctor .

Regarding that 1 mm tip; adding more paint flow will not change the overall spray pattern will it. I mean they say that it should run about a 3-in pattern but I don't know if that will change by adding volume or just cover it more in one swipe. I'm thinking it will just cover with more ink but not a wider spray does that sound correct? Also Rob commented that it takes quite a bit of air pressure, possibly over 20 psi. The compressor I have is from spray gunner and the regulator goes up to 80 I've had it set at a solid 40 before to see what it would run while spraying and it barely dropped a pound so I'm thinking high PSI will be fine.

haha yeah -- the Paasche Talon sets are way cheaper on Amazon , I think Paasche wants over 200 .
kinda that way with all manufacturer's sites .

I'd use Paasche's site to research what is available and then see if you can get it elsewhere for cheaper .
Their website sucks for searchability . I had to scroll thru every part page until I found that stuff .
searching " fan air cap " , " 1 mm needle " gives you zilch

I found my Talon on of all places, Webstaurant, com for their regular selling price of $99.99 and free shipping! I'm all for saving $40

Webstaurant.com is my wife's biggest competitor to her company rapids wholesale equipment. Like my wife they sell restaurant stuff and I'm assuming that they sell these for airbrushing cakes
