Help. What am I doing wrong? Every time I go for the metal look it comes out like this. Spotty. Compressor is about 20psi. Vallejo Metal Chrome paint. I sprayed thin coats and it still comes out like this. Any help would be appreciated.

Do those spots represent a surface texture as well?

If the spots are just in the paint, and not in the surface, I'd say the paint isn't mixed thoroughly. It might need more shaking/agitating than you're currently applying. Maybe add a glass bead to the bottle or jar, use a paint mixer or blender, a shaker, etc.

Not sure with acrylics but with laq I spray metal at lower psi- around 10. Is it drying before it hits the plastic?

That is what I am starting to think.
It's what it looks like to me. That sucks. Like I said I use Laq but to be honest I'm usually around 8psi and have done as low as 6 but AKs metals are very thin. Not sure how you can fix that. Possibly do a light sand? Just enough to knock down the bits. But I'd look into it more first!

From a distance it doesn't look as bad as the pic I posted . . . but when you look closer it looks like poo.
