And so it begins.
 
Nice way starting with the main engines - kinda speeds up all the rest process, in an allegorical way ;D
Wait... Guess Klingons know nothing about allegories ;D ;D
Excellent start, bud, will be watching this build with interest!
 
Well, the "plan", is to make the loom as tidy as possible. Something I have learned from the ongoing voyager project.

Ive run the greens for a few hours, they seam to be ok. So cutting the wires to length, and routing them to a central power bus is next. Then on to the nose, and a possible reinforcing with some copper tube.
 
How did you light the engines ? Are those CFL's? I'm assuming this is the Revell kit. Need morer data!

Its just 2 led's facing each other. There is only about 1.5mm between the clear parts inside!

The good pt, is the light travels down the length of the clear really well, and refracts around the visable bits a treat.



I shall do some more tonight, ill take pics.

3mm LED's. And i'll mount the resistors inside the main hull for a little more room.




Modelling easy, as long as you think a few moves ahead.
 
Question- LED's have one leg longer than the other (+/-) Does it matter which leg the resistor goes on? I got one right by accident messing with a WIP, but i cant tell? Dumb yes. Love the engine green, that thing could make a nice lamp! ;D

It should go on the short leg.
 
I've always placed resistors before the positive lead going into the LED which will make it the longer leg. After researching the resistor/LED +/- lead question from years ago I have found you can apparently place the resistor anywhere in the circuit configuration you would like. I'm no electronics expert but all I know is that it truly doesn't matter where the resistor goes....as long as it's there.
 
So what you are saying is that you dont need to place a resistor at each LED? i can run it off the positive side of the battery and run the lights in series?
 
Absolutely not....that would be a waste of resistors not to mention soldering time and solder. And yes you can run it off the battery side and in series. Here are some links to help you out. I use the first link to figure out resistance for single LED circuits and the second one for "series/parallel" circuits. The second link will show the resistor on the negative side when you ask it to design your array.

A little "Instructables" on wiring LED's. In this article you'll notice the resistor is on the positive side of the LED (following the battery) gets a bit technical but that's OK.

I've done this both ways in practice and can tell you they both work. if your still a little confused do a Google search on LED's in series/ parallel. Face has a good lighting tutorial as well as Grendel here on SMA.
