Boatmans 1/200 scale USS HORNET CV8 BUILD AN LIGHTS for the Doolittle raid on japan

HI ALL an kevin well ive made a rough 14inch long stand an im fairly pleased with it an ive just left it rough for the moment to see if the hull fits in the stand ok an yes its a bit far back as in the rear will be the eletrics that i intend to fit in her so here are some pics an now i know its a success i will make it alot nicer

AN I REALLY should have made it longer but never mind its doin the job that im happy with

AN DUE to the hull lenght it does make the stand look to short but when ive fitted in the hull an stand the gold connecter plugs to carry the eletric for lights an such it wont fall off the stand an here one end of the gold plugs male an female so the ship will be held tightly to the stand

HI Domer94 i used big rattle cans as yes that is a lot of paint as i gave the hull 3 coats of spray paint red oxide anti foul an grey an hand painted the matt black water line AN CHEERS for your qeustion

HI Steve yes i like big models like my near 9 ft long R/C USS NIMZT carrier as thats the biggest ive ever done with workin features so really this hornet is fairly small to me to build but the instructions are not great so it will be a challange to built it an yes ive built the big 1/350 polar lights enterprise an lit it up with loads of leds an yes that took a lot of paint as i used the tamyia pearlesce white an ive still got it as it sits on its stand above our tv an the light work from the mains eletric through a 12v tranformer SO YES I LIKE MY MODELS HUUUUUGE LOL an yes i hope you do follow this hornet build as its gonna be a fun build sir

AN i have just painted on the one side of the hull the camoflargde but to me it dont look right maybe not dark enough BUT IM ASKIN YOU GUYS YOUR OPINION WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK AS IT SHOULD BE A SORT OF BLUE COME GRAY

Interesting and cool build Chris. I'm going to decline on giving you advice on the camouflage color because I have never built a boat before well, maybe when I was nine but I'm sure it didn't end well for it back then

I think making it a little darker would look better, in my opinion.

AN Hi Kevin so you think its good either way so how ive done it its passable yea ? as if i add any more grey the camo will lose its light blueish tint so i may leave it as it is but many thanks guys

Well Chris, I really do not think anyone can provide you with a correct answer. It is your model; only you can determine what tone, dark or light you want your ship to be! For example if you want a ship that looks like she was just launched; you will want those bright, vibrant colors. But if you want her to look like she just sailed across the Pacific Ocean you may want her to look considerably muted.

The first photo is of the kit documentation, ie. no weathering. The next two reflect how a goood modeler has handled it; and the fourth is the actual ship, 6 mo.s post doolittle. By Oct 1942 there is considerabably more weathering than on Doolitles launch!

My opinion, she looks good; you just need to keep all the others consistent! She is shaping up nicely; I hope to start modeling again in a couple of days.

Chris, do, you plan to add some weathering later? Washes? This would darken a bit the colors.
In my opinion, you did a very nice job and looking amazing.
