thanks barleybop... yes you will be surprised how those memories return. around that age i built a p-51 although i never got bitten by the aircraft bug. i remember thinking who the heck would want to risk crashing the thing after all that work ! these wooden models offer a nice yin to the yang of the plastic modelling world, and most of the skills transfer over which now brings them to the next level. as far as those thoughts of other things... they are just "better managed" these days.....seems calibrated pretty well!

Memories of sanding and shaping cowling and spinner for a balsa and doped paper Spitfire when I was 14... I then went on to build a Billings Bluenose (my dad being a Maritimer from Nova Scotia).
That was fun... Nailed plank hull, masts, rigging, varnished deck and gunwales, even jumped on my mom's sewing machine to sew the sails; blew my savings on brass accessories.
Then that young man's fancy turned to thoughts of... Well, other things!
