Bergepanzerwagen IV 1/35 dragon

Ok, I'm a total noob when it comes to WW2 tanks, but why did they put the wooden box on top of the tank? Was it a late war improvisation? I'm guessing this is some kind of mortar tank, but I really don't know jack about this subject. I've also never seen a camo pattern like this but it looks cool. That must've been tedious work cutting out all those circles...

hi cave dweller, during ww2 old or damaged tanks were used as towing or repair vehicles, you would need a tank to tow a tank especially over rough ground. the box on the top was used on the panzer iii chassis to basically create a mobile workshop, obviously after the turret was removed. the box wasn't actually used on the panzer iv that i am building but i thought it would look cool to use the idea!

the disc camo pattern was a real pattern used later in the war, it must have taken some applying to a full size tank, it sure did on the model!

thanks for your interest my friend

There certainly was loads of work Grendels! Glad that parts out if the way

Did an oil layer to highlight the shadows, once that was dry I sanded back the wood box to make it look worn and then started adding all the tools to the fenders. I've started painting and weathering the stowage, and there will be a lot of it as I want to portray a really used, busy looking vehicle, with the usual oil drums, jerry cans and tools as well as some tracks and wheels scavenged from other vehicles.
I also fixed a plank to the front to hold some of the extras and added a workbench inside the box
Anyway heres where I am up to now with the stowage added, some painted, some not.

Hi Guys

Been motoring on this week and been snowed in today so heres whats been done. I used various oil paint spots blended to tone down and fade the camo scheme, muddied up the running gear with plaster and various ak mud effects, painted and weathered loads of the stowage gear and added lots of little details. I also used tamiya tape to make a ratchet scrap to hold the barrels on at the rear, painted up a jacket for the rear too as well as adding the welding gear among many other details

Heres the photos so far

Leighbo, WOW!!!!!! this is an impressive build, details are "spot" on with the camo scheme, great photos capturing all the nicely done details. Awesome job!!!

Thanks Guys

I got a bit more done today I added a few more details including finishing up the front stowage including a homemade tarp and then painted the crane and fixed it. Getting close now, just got to weather the crane and a few finishing touches

Congrats on the finish! I would suggest a bit less light when taking images. Or shorter exposure time.
