Bergepanzerwagen IV 1/35 dragon

Just catching up as everyones setting a fast pace!

I got the other side of the tracks on, the magic tracks make it move along a lot faster. I got the top of the body built but not fixed yet as I will paint the interior first, I also left all the tools off the fenders as I plant to fix them after painting.

What I've been working up to is scratch building the top storage 'box', I want it similar to the bergeanzer iii arrangement, although I've not seen this on a panzer iv chassis, I thought how useful it would have been (and how cool it will look full of tools!)

So i made this from very thin plywood to give the grainy look and scored the lank lines in. Then I created the 'metal' surround from plastic angle pieces. I will add more details as I build on to make it look more interesting.

This may seem fairly straightforward, but the biggest problem was moving the derrick crane to a new position. It should be on the original wooden panel that covers the hole left by the turret so I had to move it to the front of the tank away from the new box.

I can't believe that i've been at it a week and still not got the thing built, its a record for me!

Thanks for looking

ohh cool, are you going to paint the disc pattern on the box?

still not decided on paint yet spud, maybe the disc pattern, maybe ambush, i keep changing my mind. it would look cool with the disc pattern and i did buy some hole punchs to cut discs from tamiya tape... what do you think?

the boxes ive seen on the bergs were painted with disc but as you have changed it a bit you can just about paint it any way you like :)

Hi All

Got a bit more fettling done tonight, I wasn't happy with the thickness of the upright parts around the box so I took them off and sanded the plastic down and then added the internal box for the ladder surround and then some brackets. I also added the brackets for the crane and the log and replaced the plastic log with a more realistic balsa piece

Hi All

Managed to crack on with some more today, I used some plastic strip and plastic glue to make some weld seams around the box structure

Now all the details are added I painted up the interior and did a bit of weathering

Once this was done I primed with black primer then highlighted with light brown primer. Once this was dry I airbrushed in the brown and green camo.

Then the big task is prearing the mask for the disc pattern. Yes I could have bought the premade masks but why make it easy?!
I bought some hole punches and used three different sizes to cut the discs from masking tape

followed by a lot of circle sticking

So far this has probably taken about an hour and a half and I've started to see circles when I close my eyes so I think i'l crack on again tomorrow!

Thanks for looking

i would only do the sides and not the top as the top wasn't seen and from every pic i have seen it was normally put on the sides.

But man yer Crazy!!!!!!!!

cheers spud, i think im gonna go from the fenders up and probably do the top too but not the inside of the box, just seems more finished that way.

no point doing the inside of the box as that wouldn't have been done anyhow

Well my its taken about 8 hours of masking, spraying and unmasking, my eyes are almost bleeding but before I go and take a lie down in a dark room I wanted to share my progress on the disc camo.

Heres the completed mask

And after the spraying and picking off hundreds of circles
