Yup, I think my IOWA is looking good then post pics in the thread, and it's........gotta fix this gotta fix that.. details from close not so nice... and lots of paint touch up to do.
... but steady as she goes.slow
Agree, time is not the issue... Results are. I guess that 1/350 scale does not allow to get details perfect, at least for me.... but steady as she goes.
I've come to the conclusion that the time it takes is the time it takes. One less pressure point to deal with.
Nothing on a battleship is orange that can be seen from the outside. Life boats would be Haze Grey or at least have a Haze Grey cover on them.Quick one: which color the life buoys on a battleship? Orange?
Dan, even if still a lot of work to complete this battleship, looking forward to next one. I am tempted by the Bismarck.@GCB Your Mighty Mo is looking killer! I know first hand how you can see all the imperfections and what you wish were better, but I got to say you are light years ahead of my first attempts at 1/350 Battleships. They are a monster for several reasons as you find out along the way. All I can say is give yourself some grace and plug away and finish her. Once you get one totally under your belt, you might be addicted and find that you will improve greatly on your next build. You'll even get the bug to go with even more detail almost to the point of punishing yourself. Again, great work, you should be very proud of the work thus far, and you PE work looks stellar!
If your looking to do the Bismarck, you got it. The Revell kit with the Pontos set is absolutely the way to go.Dan, even if still a lot of work to complete this battleship, looking forward to next one. I am tempted by the Bismarck.
Any suggestion on which brand in 1/350? I read that the Revell one with Pontos kit is quite nice. Thoughts, comments?
Yes I built the Revell of Germany Bismarck with the Pontos set. It took a dive into the dumpster during our move years ago when it took an unfortunate swan dive. I plan to build it again some day soon...maybe...lol.Thanks Dan. Have you built one already?
man , that whaleboat is cleeaaannnn... guess it helps to have a couple thousand guys around to do stuff!Nothing on a battleship is orange that can be even from the outside. Life boats would be Haze Grey or at least have a Haze Grey cover on them.

I will be building the Tamiya 1/350 bismark in a few months time. PanthermanDan, even if still a lot of work to complete this battleship, looking forward to next one. I am tempted by the Bismarck.

I found an upgrade kit for the Tamiya version and a friend has also built the Tamiya and said that the details and fit were pretty good. PanthermanHey Pantherman, why Tamiya and not Revell?
This is an accomodation ladder used for access to deck from small boats or rafts. It is stowed in a horizontal position along the outside of the rail.Question for the team: those "stairs" (not sure of the correct name) on the side of the hull were stored where when on transit?
I will not be able to display them as shown on instructions because the connection in between parts if far too weak, so wondering if forgetting them or installing them horizontally??
Also, the pole on top looks like located wrongly or the stairs should face the stern, unless not related to the stairs.
Thanks.

On military ships, different types of ladders serve distinct functions and are designed for specific locations, ranging from internal decks to external transfer points. All are called "ladders," including structures that might be called "stairs" on land, due to naval traditionThanks Tim.
Understood.. Not sure if will be able to store them as such, but will give a try.
So if not stairs on ships, when talking, how they differentiate vertical ladders to ladders (diagonal like stairs) ??
I ordered an upgrade kit for the 1/350 bismark I'm planning to build. Was off for a couple of weeks so not much progress, other than the catapults.
On the left side, the original ones and on the right, those coming with the wooden deck

Well, PE parts for me remain a major challenge: too much glue (invisible if not painted, weird piles when painted), broken (bending too many times), painting (well painted before touching, messy after), positioning on model, etc... but learning slowly.I ordered an upgrade kit for the 1/350 bismark I'm planning to build.
The Tamiya kit is still in transit but the upgrade arrived so I'm tempted to do a few bit's of the PE now to save some time later.
Well to be absolutely honest, I just can't wait to have a go at the PE. Just love the challenge. Pantherman
It was a set from China on temu. To be honest I wasn't expecting much as it was half the price of eduard and wood deck but I have done some of the PE and it's the best I have used by far. I will post some photos on a new thread. Which upgrade kit you got?
thats some great railing work. not easy in 1/350No reply??
Anyhow, progressing on the superstructure and almost ready.
Missing top radar and some armament but mot handrails and stairs in place.
Next steps: connect it to the hull, add missing parts and then up to the main deck handrails.
Will finish with the assembly and paint of the main guns!
