Moved to utah so everything was in boxes...time to finish this. Waiting on the Tamiya 1/6 motorcycle chain to arrive. The one they give you is impossible to put together.

Its the fiat mephistopheles. Back in the 20s a guy built it to break the land speed record...stretched in and dropped in an airplane engine...and broke a lot of records.
This thing has over 500 parts..I made a lot of them so its taking a long time.
Just bought the chains which have about 500 parts..that's a 2 day job alone.

I think this chain may break me. Almost 2 hours to put together 1 small section. No way will I try to paint the parts before..just tooooo small. Possibly the most difficult thing I've tried to put together...
You have clean up and sand everything..tolerances are on the order of 100th of an inch...

I think I have 6 to 8 more to go...its like putting a watch together....
They do give you a little jig and tool to put it all together..and no glue needed.
Too bad nobody sells this stuff all ready built...but it would cost a ton.

Good amount of detail going into this build. Am really glad to hear that you had a jig to assemble the chain with AND the fact that there's no glue required. Makes the whole thing workable and easier to install.

You get faster each time you do it...still kills me to spend 70 bucks for it..
I'm into this thing for almost 400 now...
But getting closer to the end.
Now for the ultimate insanity....
Thinking of getting the first Pocher model...just leary of some of these ebay sellers...and I want an Un opened one.

I hear ya. I've got one automotive build that I put $500 into and I learned a lot of what NOT to do from that build. I mean.....it ended up turning out okaaaay but I've not dumped near that amount of money into a build without it yielding better results than the one I got with that particular build.

Holy canoli..looking through my stash..I found chains i bought for it years ago..already put together...oy
But these are better..so I'll keep building them..

That's usually how it works for me as well. I'll buy something that I just knew I already had......only to find said item two or three builds down the line when I was looking for something totally different. Your progress is looking rather well on this beastie.

Tried something different for the second chain..cut and glued together the jigs so I could make 1 whole piece..and it seems to have worked. Cut time more than half.
So both chains ended up at 400 pieces..and thank God that's all as there is plenty left over I don't have to do.
I'm kerplooped.

The one that came with it had you stack the parts on top of each other then melt the pins closed..creating a...total mess.
This chain has metal rollers, and resin parts and snaps together..

Man that's looking good. Your work on the chain is really making a difference in the overall build. Looking forward to seeing more on this one.
