Getting closer.
Thought I'd extend this build and create a bit more work for myself so I decided to try a new product on the chrome kick plates to make them pop a bit more. Yeah. So now I'm sanding. I don't understand why an alcohol based product was able to ruin a lacquer based 2k sealant though. You can see it a bit better on the '65.

Oh, ouch.
Sorry, that sucks.
You'll recover

Looking very much forward to the recovery effort on this one @Ron2 . I have a love/ hate relationship with BMF but in the end it is sooooo worth it.

And these parts are drying waiting to be chromed and some steel and misc colors. Check out this blower! Once I get these parts with final coat I'll just have assembly and adding finishing touches to the engine area. Will be great to get this finished.

Here she is but I had to cut off part of transmission. I may have shed a tear. I had to remove a brace from engine compartment and will need to grind away part of the front brace to get it to fit. Then it will be on to details in the engine bay.

So I carved up some of the braces yesterday morning and had to cut some of the trans case to get it to fit. Touched up the paint. Then last night getting ready to drop the motor in and realize the firewall is missing. No idea where the thing is. It's not a big deal to scratch build but I had it in my head I was going to drop the engine in etc so I got a bit disgusted with myself and went to work on my supercobra instead. I've not had an aftermarket motor fit properly in a kit yet and while I haven't pulled out the tape and calculator they seem pretty spot on compared to the kit motors so I have to imagine the kits aren't very accurate in this department.

Yup, all it takes is a fraction of a mm, compounded, to telegraph into a no chance in H*** that's gonna fit.
Not saying this was your issue here, but I find it particularly true when using CA: if a part isn't seated perfectly, the CA instantly fills the gap and hardens; with plastic cement, with a little wiggle and force the part can weld/melt into place.

I had a dark blue metallic '68 gto when I was 17. Depending on the lighting it looked dark blue, dark green or black. Man that car was fun! I once raced a blown corvette and one of the girls in my car needed up vomiting from the smoke, noise and speed! I still laugh about that.
Great memory there! I was at a drag strip in the Florida Tampa Bay area (can't remember the name) just to get some "real" 1/4 mile times on my '66 GTO. I was staged with a '69-'69 GTO to my right. We left the line and about 2/3 way down, he was ahead of me and wrenched his drive shaft out of the car and sent it flying across my hood at eye level !! Scared the crap out of me.
Got my times into the mid 13 seconds, which was good enough for 18 year old kids street car with and decent built up engine by my Dad and me. Certainly nothing like the serious street racers out there!
Build on!

That would be freaky! I dropped my rear end taking off from a light once. I had no idea what was going on, car took off like a rocket and next minute I'm coasting to the median!

I decided to leave the engine bay simple- wanted the focus to be the blower. Couple flaws in the paint but overall I'm really happy with it. Today I realized my race against the blown corvette was 40 years ago! Holy crap seems like yesterday and made me feel old! I've got one more goat in my stash- a 69 but first I want to get my firebird together. That'll be next. Hope you enjoy the pics!

I can't make out from the "herd of Goats" photo of the blue hardtop is a '66 or '67? Can't see grill detail or rear lights to help me out.

All good lookin' builds!!

Saw this and thought I posted. Happens all the time to me as I'm getting pulled this way and that from the computer. Your take on this GTO of yours was a very good one. I may have to go back and read your story about the race with a blown Corvette as that sounds like a fun read.
Excellent work here bud.
