Adampolo13's BSC Thread - Finished

Re: Adampolo13's BSC Thread

Nicely done so far Adam! Making things really pop on this one!! Keep burning the midnight oil brotha'!! ;)

Re: Adampolo13's BSC Thread

Hey guys, no pictures tonight but the good news is I've got more than half the seams on this thing filled and sanded. Well, the entire bottom anyways, which is the hard part. The top seam doesn't have to get removed as its a panel line on the real thing. More pictures will be going up tomorrow I hope.

Re: Adampolo13's BSC Thread

What's up guys? I hope everybody is doing well! I came home from work this afternoon with a killer head cold, one of those colds where the congestion is so bad everything sounds like it's under water. I was home for about 10 minutes when a delivery showed up.
New Iwata Compressor! :)

After I hooked that up I couldn't help myself from working on the hind.

Bottom seams all buckled up!

After that was done I started working on the top seams. The nice thing is panel lines run along most of the top. The only thing I didn't like was the detail for the strap/clamp thingies...

So I made my own from scrap PE.

And then I hit it with some primer and that's how she sits. Oh yea, the wings are just dry fit on for now...

Thanks for checking out the build.

Re: Adampolo13's BSC Thread

There you go!!   New toys!! :) Nice to have some air back in the room I suppose!! ;D That non-wingy-wingy-theng is looking pretty sweet there buddy!! Making any chopper noises yet? ::)

Re: Adampolo13's BSC Thread

Thanks guys! Todd, to answer your question, I was making chopper noises when I was at the hobby shop picking this thing out! Lol

A little more progress tonight. It was a long process with not much to show but good non the less. Have to say, the fit of the glass has been the worse fit of the kit. Very gappy.

It was so bad in fact, I did something very dangerous. I tacked the canopy in place with CA glue. This is an extremely stupid and dangerous thing to do as CA gives of gases as it dries and it can easily run and fog up clear parts. Once it was in place as seen here I started filling the gaps with micro crystal clear.

The disaster struck. I dropped the model and the canopy came free. After clearing up the crystal clear and CA glue I inspected everything and there was no damage. It was actually a blessing in disguise because I had forgot to paint the top part of the cockpit.

Once I got that done the canopy went back on. Yes CA glue again... But no issues. This time I'm gonna give the glue a chance to set before handing. Forgive the finger prints here, they came off with windex. P.S. Check out that cool little fan!

As you can see here, my hour and a half of sanding and polishing the mold line appears to have worked.

Thanks again for following along.

Re: Adampolo13's BSC Thread

Still looking good Adam! well, that will teach you to glue the canopy in place before its time!! :) Funny how the modelling gods work! I say keep slapping his around the bench...but you have that well in hand....actually, not! ::)

Re: Adampolo13's BSC Thread

Geeez, thanks Todd! As a friend put it earlier, I was playing Russian roulette. LOL.

Re: Adampolo13's BSC Thread

Good "save"! A lot of times in the past I've applied thin coats of Future to the canopy after polishing and that for some reason keeps CA from fogging, too. The draw back is that your Future has to be super thin...and with a bubble canopy it tends to pool, even with small amounts.

STILL looks great though!

Re: Adampolo13's BSC Thread

Hey guys thanks again for following along. This kit really has been a fun ride so far. In terms of progress here we go.

Before we start want to address this:

I left that in there on purpose to protect the canopy while I handle the bird during construction. Adds rigidity to the canopy and keeps me from putting my fingers in the pit.

First order of business today was working the canopy, both with the Eduardo masks and filling the gaps. Mr. Surfaced to the rescue.

Once dry I remove the excess with Q-tips and IPA.

Comes out very smooth!

After that I glued up the landing gear. I thought about gluing them in after painting but the fit is tight and the kind of click in and I was afraid of scratching the paint work.

Once the gear was in place I added some more parts to the chin. Don't know what they're called but they had some funky seams to be addressed.

While that was all drying I started working on the rotor blades. 3 of 5 done so far.

Great fit and detail except a little filling to be done.

Again, may not seem like a lot but I feel like I got a lot done. I'm just enjoying the ride.

Re: Adampolo13's BSC Thread

Looking really nice Adam, and the attention to detail and care your taking on this will pay out big time come the finish.

Re: Adampolo13's BSC Thread

WHEEEE!!! Helicopter rides coming soon!!!

Looking really good Adam. Good call with the Mr. Surfacer to fill. I'll be adopting the same methods...

Re: Adampolo13's BSC Thread

It works great for all kinds of seams/gaps/etc. the longer you let it dry the better. The IPA slowly removes the Mr. Surfaced but doesn't affect the plastic, safe on clear parts too!
