I've got a few models which strike me as possible contest entries right now. All of these are not started, the 1:72 Academy FW 190 box actually has a BF 109 E in there as well. I'm not planning or even considering finishing all of these; I'm just not sure what I exactly want to commit to for all of my entries as yet. I'll decide as I go.

And the candidates are;

The new Kittyhawk AH-1Z kit has got me thinking about spinny-wingy-thingys. So to keep my leap from the blocks low stress I'm starting with this kit (Revell RAH-66 in 1:72 scale). I know for sure I can finish this in three months. Then the rest of my contest effort can unfold however it decides to.

Not the greatest heli kit out there, but as a 1:72 starting point I think it will serve nicely. This is my first ever chopper.

Thanks cargoman, Nicholas, Scott and Adam.

Sweet. A heli! There just might be a few this year. ;)

I think scott is on to something here... ;D

I think that would be really cool if a few other rotors showed up. I never really considered building a helicopter before, but with some of the recent kit releases...that has changed (for me at least). I so want to add that Kittyhawk AH-1Z to my stash. I even considered picking up an Airfix AH-7 Lynx from my LHS. I should whittle down the stash first maybe...

Anyways the nice thing about this kit is that the airframe is made of only a few parts; so I've started some of the major assemblies, fixing seams and mould lines on the rotors, as well as priming the cockpit. Things are going to slow fairly soon as many of the doors, wings and missile rails are covered in raised ejector pin marks. Clean up :p

As a side question; anyone know of some good AM 1:72 scale hellfires? Just wondering. I think the kit hellfires are lacking.

Rough best fit of the cockpit to the fuselage.

And beginning the priming;

Thanks Q. I think it'll turn into a neat little piece when finished. I'm starting to run into other delays; why does the paint call out always seem to refer to a shade of colour I don't already own?

I'll have to make a trip to the LHS for some Vallejo MC. Maybe start painting the cockpit area on Wednesday.

Thanks Warped_one and John. :)

Quick update. On the RAH-66 I've completed the following;
1. The cockpit is painted up and,
2. The fuselage (is it still called a fuselage on a helicopter) is closed

I can't seem to link in the pictures from my work computer right now, I'll add them to this thread later today.

For more Helicopter building goodness, head on over to Adams BSC build thread, and pester him to show picks of the of his MI-24V Hind kit plastic. Click on the link below to (pester) check out his thread

Here's the pictures I tried to link to earlier;

The kit canopy is a single piece, but I'm planning to cut open the crew access doors. Also my canopy has a big scratch on the starboard side that will need some attention.

It's nearly built! Great ;)

I wish. I do almost have one of my 2014 BSC contest builds finished however... ::)

Thanks for the supportive comments guys. :)

It just looks like I'm nearly done, I've still got a ton of stuff to finish (mainly seam and ejector pin clean up). The pause button might have to be pressed also, as I wait on a very tiny AM item for the build.

Even if it does get paused, I have BSC build #2 started now...

On to seam and sink mark filling round three. I think I'm close to done with the filling on the airframe - I'll likely have to start painting some parts of the assembly to continue soon.

Round two below

Round Three. At least the olive plastic makes it easy for me to see what I'm doing.
