3d printed figures

Was wondering if anyone has bought these types of figures? What are they like is the detail any good? Back to the old scale size if they are 1/35 what figures are they equivalent to mini art/tamiya? Or something else. There seems to be different size in this scale as 1/72. Anyway cheers for now Trev

I have some yes they seem good to me but I suppose it's depends on who makes them and what you want

Yeah, as Dave says, it depends. Do your research, as you would for any other product.

I bought some 3D-printed part, heads mostly, through the now-defunct Shapeways. I was happy with the product. Shapeways was really a marketplace or distributor for the individual 3D sculptors, so there was one level of potential difference between any two products-who was the sculptor? Also, many products were available in 2 levels of quality. The basic level could be rough, for example, and need more cleanup. The advanced level was generally a very fine print that needed little or no cleanup. To the buyer, it really depended on the subject, his particular need, and how much work he was willing to do, to decide which to choose, if the selection was available. Mine were 54mm heads, so I chose the advanced level to reduce the amount of cleanup I needed.

There is so much variety out there, that you just need to do your research, as I said to open this reply.

Thanks guy's that's a good bit of advice. I was wondering if there is a difference in size as there is in 1/72 scale. I use mainly mini art so do you think they would be compatible. Having said that I noticed you said they were 54 mm I will measure them when I get home cheers Trev

Compatibility of scale/size across different brands or producers is a whole 'nother subject, as they say. You'd think there would be consistency, and compatibility, between figures from two different makers, listed as the same scale or size. But there isn't, or at least, there's no guarantee. Different makers can have different interpretations of what the scale or especially size means. You really need to put the figures side by side and see how drastic the difference is. Some figures might be different but proportionally, the figures look natural next to each other. Others are visibly different and don't work, unless you're working on a diorama and forcing perspective.

Hi Baron that's basically what I was thinking. I liked the look of the 3d printed figures but wasn't sure about size difference. I know mini art and Tamiya are quite noticeable and didn't want to waste money on them if it looked silly. You are quite correct in saying you have to put them side by side to really gauge them as I said iam going to the IPMS show in Telford in a couple of weeks so perhaps someone there might sell them so I can see for myself.
