1/72 Lancaster Mk 10 SAR

A lot of the variation you see there is just because of my application method. I moved the airbrush in the direction of the airflow accross the wings to achieve the shade variances. The areas directly around the nacelles was painted with a contrasting color as the real Lanc SARs had these areas painted with silver lacquer as corrosion control. Any of the true bare metal areas on these were all just a really weathered and slightly oxidized aluminium because of the casutic chemical solvents used to strip the wartime paint of the airframes. The entire undersides were also painted for corrosion control using grey or silver paint.

Thanks Quaralane

I was gonna wait til I was entirely done painting before I posted any more pictures, but after finishing the day glow red, I decided a few more wouldnt hurt... looking pretty good now. I do have a few areas to clean up where I got a bit of day glow overspray or paint creep down panel lines and creases, then Ill mask and prep for the de-icing boots and antiglare on the nose.

Getting close to the end. Tuesday is my new deadline for finishing this one having missed my chance to get to the CAMS show today, oh well, got some model buildinhg done at least. Touch ups applied, decals on, clear coat and satin coat applied as well as some exhuast staining. Hard to tell in these pics but the clear coats really took away from the day glowness of the day glow red paint. Looks mor elike international orange now. Oh well, live and learn.

I discovered while applying decals that I made the day glow fuselage band reach around too far at the top of the fuselage, there should have been a white background wide enough for the RCAF lettering between the red and the bare metal of the fuselage sides. Instead of digging out the airbrush, I found some spare white deals from an old superscale decal sheet,I cut up enough to make 2 layers over the red, then was bale to put the lettering over that.

Got a few things to do tomorrow but I am gonna try to wrap it up.

Way to go!!! That looks great. Missed commenting a ways back about the finishes...amazing job!! Decs look sweet too! ;D

Very very sharp looking. I wouldn't mind having one like that sitting on my shelf.

I didn't know they used a Lancaster for rescue purposes. What year would this plane have operated? Or did I miss something?

Thats a really excellent finish you put on there. Love the tonal variations, and the color scheme. Great subject too. You really have a weatlh of knowledge on your piece. Great work!!
