I'll be starting in on this classic. My wife gave me this kit for Christmas 20+ years ago. She's happy that I'm finally getting around to starting it.

The joint for the hull halves is not a very good one so I added some reinforcements using the old standby Testors tube cement and some Evergreen sheet.. See, there's still a good use for tube cement. Tamiya putty on the bottom makes the seam a little more acceptable.

I mentioned the poor fit of this old kit, but that's what I like actually. I like the challenge of trying to get stuff to line up with lots of sanding/test fitting/sanding some more, filling/sanding seams, etc. I think if a kit went together perfectly and seamlessly, and all I had to do was paint it I'd be bored. And this kit requires a LOT of cleanup and gap filling.

Lots of clamps and rubber bands are necessary,

Big gaps in the aft hull. I used Mr Surfacer 500 and Tamiya putty. I like Mr Surfacer in certain spots because I then just rub most of it away with a q-tip diped in Mr Color Thinner. My Mr Surfacer is a bit old so its more like putty now.
