The black base sprayed smoothly and evenly straight out of the bottle, no mixing with thinner. I used their thinner to first clean out the airbrush which it did quickly. My normal routine is to follow the thinner with my cleaning concoction of Simple Green and 91% alcohol mixed 50/50 which I did.

Glad to see a rarely covered paint scheme of the P-47.
That's a great choice of scheme!

Personally I much prefer the Razorback P-47 and P-51. There;s something really sports coupe-esque about their lines that just says 'fast'.
History has shown that the "C" model Mustang was slightly faster than the much loved "D" model. Visibility was much more important at the time.

Yep, they started the war in P-40's then very briefly in P-39's ( I'll bet the majority of the pilots didn't even get into the 39's because they only used those for a month or two) then the P-47's and then switched to Mustangs.

That's a stunning bit of painting - very nice work indeed!

I have to say I didn't know they operated P-39's either - very interesting.

Got a chance to work on the P-47. All the decals are on and started weathering today. Airbrushed Tamiya Smoke around the gun barrels and towards the trailing edge of the wing. Then I used some Ammo dark wash on the left horizontal stabilizer do see how it would look. I like it so on to the rest of the aircraft next.

I give the wash about an hour to dry then start removing it with Q-tips, so no you don't usually get the wash anywhere but in the engraved lines. Course you had to have given the aircraft a clear coat prior to applying the wash.

I may have to do a Tuskegee version one day

I have the same kit in the stash, I did the bubbletop last year with Zotz decals as Rozzie Geth II, and Eduard gauges wiring on the engine and seat belts. Goes together extremely well. It was my first time painting invasion stripes, like 90 minutes to mask and seconds to paint. I'm not much into modeling aircraft, but I do have the same kit you're building as well as the Eduard P-51K profi pak which is a thick box.
