I decided it might be easier to build a lot of this up first
Dunno how much of these decision points I'll remember, but it is very interesting to hear about the airframe modeler's MO; if I ever venture into this space, at least I'll have an idea of typical gotchas and considerations! In the meantime, makes for interesting build notes.

Primer day, always a nice milestone to reach. On aircraft I usually do a light, uneven coat to help with the camo and weathering later, and so the buildup of colors doesnt end up too thick.

This might be one of the reasons I put this kit away for so long.

I'm wondering if I can fill the gap in with Micro Kristal Klear. I'm not taking this build too seriously, I'm mostly hoping to just practice my airbrushing of camouflage.
I've used Elmer's -swear I don't own any stock, to fill in small
Gaps.

Okay, that was REALLY hard. Probably because my hands are a little shaky. But it was good practice. It was really hard to see the difference in the two greens as I was spraying the darker on. I'll go back and do touchups later. Thanks for the encouragement.

I feel ya! That was me free handing camo the first time, which wasn't that long ago lol.

Looks great! I built the Monogram kit a couple times as a kid. Wouldn't mind running one down now. Love the F-105. Always wish I could've seen one in flight. It had what was at the time the most powerful jet motor in a production "fighter." And they are huge. I've seen a few up close at Air Force base air parks. I can take a running jump at the intake lip and still not reach it!

I like how you put plastic bags over the posts to keep the paint out of the wing nuts. Keeps them free and easy to turn I'll bet!

Great work so far T-Gun! I recently finished 2 kits for Friends that helped me with a "special project" back in 1990. I've always had a soft spot for the Thud and had a unique relationship with one as shown in the photos below. Our small group of enthusiasts "saved" a F-105B that was abandoned in a playground and moved it to an airport as a Gate Guardian. Certainly a better fate than being slowly torn apart. It was quite the adventure, got to know some of her intimate parts. I plan on building at least one more for myself in the SEA Camo but might need to do a Thunderbirds scheme as she was only flown in those colors for a very short time.
Anyway, keep up the good work!

Here it is in Zanesville OH as late as 2014. Looking good I might add.

That really warms my heart!! We were a small little group without the proverbial "money man" to support our passion and vision. We knew she ended up in Ohio but lost track of her progress. She looks GREAT!
Thank you so much for the update, I'll be sending this picture to the rest of the guys that worked on her way back when. Outstanding!

That's really cool.

Great idea! Some of you awesome armor/truck builders should do it!!
I have an unbuilt 1:72 scale Trumpeter F-105 kit* but don't know any suitable truck kit, as it would need a civilian one rather than, say, a military tank transporter. It is really appealing to build something like this, but I have too much else I also want to make (and already have in my stash …) so unfortunately, it's not going to be me, I suspect :(

* I needed its decals and bombs for this:

I like your camo schemes! I've only seen pictures of the prototype and early 2 models, I think. Wasn't there some issues about deciding ejection mechanisms due to intake above the canopy? A downward mechanism? Can't remember..........

... Our small group of enthusiasts "saved" a F-105B that was abandoned in a playground...
That's interesting! When I was a kid, one of the playgrounds around here had an F9F and we played on it. It had been gutted before it was turned over, of course. Weaponry removed (no surprise), engines, the rest of the interior equipment except the pilot's seat and the IP. It made me wonder how many worn-out aircraft ended up in that particular fate. Not as gate guards on a military base or other installation, but as an impromptu Jungle Jim in a playground.

I like your camo schemes!
Thanks :) It's really the F-100 scheme with slight adaptations to fit the F-107, since the two are far more closely related than they look at first.

IIRC, that's one of the urban myths surrounding the aircraft. Rearward visibility was poor, but any ejection seat worth the name will boost the pilot way above the intake.

Regarding the ejection seats... that's always the hope!
