I had to go digging for the box, and the fuselage was in a different location, but I eventually found my long-ago started F-105G that's been packed away for ages. After seeing Edbert's recent F-105 and others, I think its time to resurrect this build (or at least add it to the "in work" stack so I can see it). Long ago I tried my hand at scribing and it didn't go so well as you can see. I'll have to somehow hide this side of the model as I WILL NOT be scribing the rest of it.

I'll be airbrushing as I am no good at brush painting.

This might be one of the reasons I put this kit away for so long.

I'm wondering if I can fill the gap in with Micro Kristal Klear. I'm not taking this build too seriously, I'm mostly hoping to just practice my airbrushing of camouflage.

I think you can fill the gap but it will not be clear. Someone suggested vacu-form preplacement canopies to me recently as an inexpensive alternative. But I've heard only tough stories about vacu-form. Acetate could be cut and fit, if you have good milling capability to grind out that whole pane and leave the frame.

If it were me I'd wimp out. Maybe call it battle damage, a shard from flak hit there, show paint and sheet-metal damage at that spot. Or, maybe have a bright colored bit of cloth to represent a bandanna inside to camoflage it somewhat.

Sorry, no good ideas here. I just checked my box of clear bits for ya, I have 2 extra front canopies for 1/48 'Nam jets, but not for the 105.

Just a thought, Advanced Modeling Products has a set of SEA camo masks for the F-4 in 1/32. I've used Jim's masks in the past and have had good results with them.

Oh good, just realized this tank is missing. Kind of a cool part to not have. And I'm not about to plunk down $20 for a resin one. Fortunately, I have all the missiles and centerline tank. I'll have to study the different configurations of Wild Weasels now.

One of my complaints about the Hobby Boss 105 was that the pylons you show with drop tanks is where I was supposed to put the bombs. I understand either one could be mounted there, but the majority of vintage photos I saw of Thuds in SEA it was the center pylon where dumb bombs were typically mounted.

Anyway, taking the long route to say, I have a set of inner drop tanks for your plane, I think.

Mine was the single-seat Delta model, so the pylons look different than your box-art/instructions. Do these look like they'd work? If you want them, let me know.

Those look more like F-4 wing tanks. The F-105 wing tank has three fins, looking more like F-84 tanks. I would also need the large pylon which is molded onto the tank I am missing. I appreciate the offer though.

Here's one without the wing tank or pylon (unless its on the other side), but I think the other side would have the AGM-78 since it's not on this side. So that's good to know.

Making some progress. I'm enjoying this build because its a nostalgia build, but I had forgotten how wonky the landing gear were on these old Monogram kits, with minimal attachment points for strength, and how vague the instructions were. I thought it best to start glueing the gear up now before painting.

Monogram issues notwithstanding, the Thud was a tall gangly thing IRL, I think the model kit makers should allow a steel rod inside those struts like Tamiya does on their 1/32 kits.

Your bird is looking nice, looking forward to more.

I figured that I better glue the electronics bulges on now too, since again, vague instructions and no locating holes, so all I had to go on for the location of these is this part of the paint scheme drawing.

I sanded down the wing bracing so that the missile pylon will be flush:

I know that it's been at least 25 years since I had Squadron Green putty, that's how long ago I started on this kit before I packed it away.

Did some brush painting and weathering on the ejection seats.

Is it just me, or is that fuselage very narrow? No knowledge of aircraft, but that looks like threading the needle just to get in!
