Trying to finish up the 3 kits that I have in progress so that I can get to the F-18 group build. I've got my F-100 in primer. Getting close.

Looking very good. I have this kit in my stash. How is the build?
I've been happy with the fit. I chose to close the air brake and main gear doors, which took some putty to fill in, but that's pretty much been it. The wing to fuselage fit is very good. I'd recommend it as being a good one.

I've decided I'm going to try to do the burnt metal look from the engine heat (it's an F-100, I guess I pretty much have to) so getting the bare metal area on was the next step. I'm not sure how this is going to turn out but learning something new seems to be a big part of modeling.

Pretty much!

Doesn't matter if the overall aircraft is BMF or camo, the engines burned through. I think the only option would be to show it as it came off assembly line.

I look forward to seeing your bird, F-100 is one of my favorites! I'm resisting the urge to but the 1/32 scale version.

1/32 would definitely be awesome but it would sure take up a lot of display case space. I started building models in 1/32 but switched to 1/48 for that reason.

I finally got back to my F-100. I decided to free-hand the camo on it. I researched the FS numbers for the colors, used the correct ones by the same manufacturer, but I'm pretty disappointed with the contrast between the two greens. It was extremely difficult to paint the edges between the two and you've got to have a real good eye to see the difference. I guess it is what it is because I'm too lazy to repaint the whole thing. I'm very happy that the masking didn't pull off any of the silver in the engine area though! Moving forward...

HI well i had this colour camo paint prob on my big 1/32 phantom an it looked all wrong an i had to repaint free hand with hairy stick but in the end it all turned out good but to me your colours look good but Jakko has a good point to make about that darker green an i think he may be right an regards your burnt section on the fusealage well i remember seeing the real planes at raf coltishall open day an i was amazed at the coluors in the burnt section as there was even a light colouring of blue also

Congrats on not lifting the NMF! What did you use for masking?
I used Tamiya tape for curves along the edges and yellow Frog Tape (brand name) to fill in the rest. It's the lowest tack style of Frog Tape. I also painted the 3 colors in one afternoon so that I could get the tape on and back off again quickly.

You would only need to respray the darker patches, though :) On the real thing, the difference between the two shades of green was also not necessarily all that apparent, however.
He's right of course. If it were me I'd darken up the darkgreen just a bit, but the color variations on these was extreme, it seems no two aircraft look the same.

Since all of the masking has been removed, I won't be doing any more airbrush work. I agree that it's the obvious solution, but look back at my post to see the part about lazy…. I've decided that I'm going to go with this aircraft being painted colors that are very close to each other. Since that's the case, I'm dead on! ;) I have definitely learned a lesson about SE Asia camo colors for future builds though.
