I decided to start out with a NASCAR subject. I am using the 1/24 Revell kit for a 2001 Intrepid driven by Awesome Bill from Dawsonville. Here is my start.

something always goes wrong for me
Ha same man, idk how many times I've had what I felt was a flawless build only to massively botch the window install or something like that, in fact it literally just happened yesterday…. I had the 2023 jr chase kit and they made the drive line too short and the instructions said to lengthen it by an 1/8", that drives me nuts, a known issue but they revise the instructions and pass the burden to the consumer, next was the requirement to use pennys as shims. Who has penny's these days and what if the builder isn't in the US? It should have came with a shim or a measurement. And lastly the decals, there is a definite learning curve to jr decals. I got the Larson 2024 I believe, as well so i haven given up on jr kits yet.

Just curious, are you talking about Jr as in Dale Earndhart Jr or Salvinos JR Model Kits? I build the old Revell kits which I think are now repopped by Salvinos Jr kits? I tried an old 80s Buick that was repopped and the fit was horrid, I think the molds were "cleaned" or altered and that seems to have messed up the fit maybe or maybe it's just me.

Yea its never fun having to remake stock parts.

That figure came out looking pretty darn good bud. I've not had the opportunity to build a Salvino's kit as of yet but.......I've heard many a horror story.
Thanks, I don't build Salvino JR models, strictly Revell, Monogram, AMT, MPC or occasionally a Lindberg one. I tried a Salvino JR kit that was an old Monogram mold they bought and cleaned up the molds. The parts did not fit right and I got depressed and tossed it in the garbage. That's NOT a fair assessment as I think their own molds may be better than the 1980 old Monogram and Revell molds they are trying to fix. I am tempted to try one of their 2020-2024 NASCAR CUP car kits.

I'd be interested in seeing how those 2020-2024 NASCAR kits are. Hopefully they've learned some lessons from all of the negative feedback in the past. Word does have a way of making it back pretty quickly these days.

I detailed up the dashboard. The kit gives you decals for instrument faces which are black. The reference pictures I have show white faces with orange needles. I placed a piece of evergreen plastic strip in back in of the instrument holes and marked the needles with a sharp pencil then removed the plastic strip and painted the needles orange. I did not try to make the black graduations on the dial as it was beyond my talents. I glued the plastic strip back in and it looks close enough to me.

I do pretty much what you did here in regard to instrument panel gauge faces with the backing strip. I will say that I find gauge face decals that are about the same size to use. Let me show you what I mean and you'll be able to see more clearly:

After drilling out the gauge display face from the instrument panel I took a decal with the backing and all and glued it onto the plastic piece in the foreground:

I did the very same with the gauge cluster in the center of the dash except I glued all gauges to one plastic piece of stock and glued that to the rear of the panel.

It's important for me to convey to you that this is meant in a helpful manner and not of a nitpicking one. What you're doing with this build is indeed good.

That's a nice idea BUT why would I want to cut out black faced dials when the ones on the real deal are WHITE!!!!! I am not into just detail, the color has to be correct too or it' s a moot point! The decals on the kit I have are BLACK not WHITE.

No worries man. The last part of my message above was one of humility and I didn't mean to offend or to be nitpicky. If I did, I truly apologize as being offensive as that is just not my way.

Looking forward to more on this one.
