I lost my motivation for awhile, but I got it back by completing a big sub assembly, the forward funnel stack.

In keeping with working from the center line of the ship outwards, my next project will be the 10 double five inch gun turrets.
There is so much that goes into each section that it feels like I'm starting another model build.
One foot in front of the other. :)
Terrific work, the figures make it look great. I'm inspired to save for my 1/200 Bismark. Pantherman

Thanks, and I agree about the figures. I first thought they would be difficult to paint. Turns out it's not bad at all, they are small enough that just getting the basic colors with a dark wash is good enough, at least for me.
I have about 25 more to spread about the ship as I go.
kevin , what wash technique did you use? i see you did panel accent , but what about the general surfaces?

For the general surfaces I have been varying the base color. I'm using Tamiya XF 19 Sky Grey and XF 69 NATO Black, and been adding a little XF 2 Flat White. The higher up on the ship the more white I've been adding.
I'll then apply a liberal wash with the grey and maybe a little brown. The black panel liner sparingly. Wipe off as needed. Then dry brush and highlight with white and a little silver. On the larger, flatter surfaces I use a little sponge with almost no white left on it to vary the base color some more.
At times when I look at it I think I'm doing too much for this scale. It's fun and hard to stop.....I'm use to 1/35 and 1/16 armour. At least she has been at sea for a year at the time frame I'm depicting with the camo scheme.
The good thing about posting pics on here, is once I zoom in I can see all the areas I need to fix or touch up.

I finally finished the super structure, what a relief. It was close quarters in there, even with the six inch tweezers. I keep bending and knocking of some of the smaller and fragile parts trying to install other parts.
I'm going to turn my attention to the stern with the catapults, and King Fishers, and crane.

As usual, once I post the pics here I can zoom in and see areas that need to be touched up. Onward.........

Awesome, I'm loving this build. Pantherman

I've completed the assembly of the catapults. I have questioned, and even cursed a couple times the aftermarket Pontos Detail Up kit. I will have to give them credit here. The catapults are very detailed and went together with minimal frustration. They are not picture perfect, but I'm happy with the results. I expect the same with the crane, which is next on the list to build.

I'm getting closer to the finish line..... finish the catapults, planes, crane, the three main turrets, finish the handrails, make a stand, some sort of display case.......I think that's it.
Thanks for the confidence boost everybody.

Looking absolutely stellar Kevin! Those catapults look like they are ready to "launch" some Kingfishers, better stow the wings or you'll have little 200 scale planes flying around the house. ;)

Thanks Dan, it's 1/200 scale though. I'm just getting into the Trumpeter Kingfishers, with the Pontos upgrades. I remember you posted a link to aftermarket planes in the group build thread that looked pretty sweet. It's good to know I have options if these don't work out.
Well good on you if you can work your magic on the clear plastic planes. I've never had much luck with them, brittle and all, but I only worked with 350 scale, not 200 like yours. I usually like to have mine with open canopies, folded wings, or other action going on with them, so clear plastic doesn't like to be cut or scribed etc, without a lot of pampering.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to try the clear ones from the kit first and see what happens.........I will get aftermarket ones if the results are unsatisfactory.
