Here's a look at my conversion of Ertl/MPC's 1/58 scale Millenium Falcon kit into a conjectural YT-1300 light freighter which I've named, "The Kestrel".

This is the link to the SMA forum post detailing her construction:

At last, a Millenium Falcon with balls...

Just kiding :D . Your YT-1300 is just magnificent !

Me too. That wing paint is really sharp. Great finishing this one Splashcoat.

Fine work, I'm liking the icon and wings stencil and the overall weathered look it the ship. Nice to something other then Han Solo's ship.

Thanks. If I do something like this again, I'd make sure that the template fit better where the markings are more prominant. I did the bottom of the hull first in case it didn't work out the way I wanted it to. When I moved to the top, the template didn't want to fit quite right. Live and learn.

Thank you for the link to here. The detail, paint and accessory cargo just looks right. This build came together beautifully. Well done.

This is probably the first MF model with some cargo in the mandibles shown that I've seen so far.
Outstanding work overall, and I'm especially digging the prof.-done paintjob.

I was looking at the amount of detail you put into it,i didn't notice that it had no radar. :D

Thanks, Java. I wanted to this YT-1300 to look different than the Millennium Falcon, but not TOO different... if you know what I mean. The sensor array started life as an LED lightbulb; check out this link to the SMA thread of this model's construction if you like.

Cheers.

Great build, but I am wondering, where did you get the base and rods to support the model?

I got the material from a Lowes home improvement store. The acrylic rod comes in a three-foot-length and is easily cut with a hacksaw. The base is a sheet of 1/8" acrylic into which I drilled three holes to accept the rods. I glued the rods in place with solvent cement. Acrylic sheet comes pre-cut in a variety of sizes and thicknesses.

* Plastics suppliers will sometimes give you their scraps if you ask nicely. If there are any near you give them a call, it couldn't hurt.
