did my first ever deadeye / shroud. took a couple attempts with different thickness rope. i have new respect for those guys that build ships of the line with a hundred of these things. i guess you build up some sort of muscle memory and system the more you do... at least ill tell myself that. anyhow , ill call this my small victory for the night

Nothing better than a wooden model of these old ships. Very nice detail off the chart. I buy rope & chain from the nautical websites. Used for flat car loads, a great source for sure.

Oooh, rigging looks awesome!
What a fantastic project... even the rudder looks like it would actually work!
How many nautical knots did you have to learn in miniature?

thanks. yes i can see why they call this a beginners model. its kind to the person first doing one of these. but it does get you using the techniques and processes for a more complicated rig.
well , im a former professional mariner.. so i learned and used all those over the years.. now the challenge is to do them with tweezers and glue! seems i wont be doing any splicing though.. unless i shrink myself. but in reality , the model only really uses clove hitches , overhand knots , cleat hitch , and line coiling which is a little challenging. i have to try it soaking the coils with the watered down white glue and see what happens.

well all , im calling this one completed tonight. i had a little snafu with the mounting screws going through the keel on one side, so ill display port side out... i applied a couple coats of satin poly to the outside of the hull.. its subtle. but shes there.. in all her glory now. was a pretty good experience. i have an old steamer wood kit that may go on the ways next. also the hull of the 1/200 sovremenny is on the plastic bench.

Man you're killing it! I'm definitely using this as a reference when I finish mine...someday.
i used some artistic license here and there... your hull is outstanding. you will be surprised how fast the rest goes. looking forward to seeing it
