Problem is, my building rate is best categorized as "glacial," due to other commitments and an abundance of perfectionism. But since I have at least 3 SBDs and a Vindicator in the stash, it's tempting. Now all I have to do is finish the P-40E sitting on my bench. Maybe this group build will get me building faster. Of course, I may just follow the build for inspiration … pay no attention to that big block of ice in the corner …

Great motivation here. I have a couple in the stash and have kind of lapsed in modeling for the past month or so
Nice to get back to hobby time

I'm not sure which one yet.

It is either the 1/48 Revell SBD Dauntless
unfortunately the old tooling that had a few toy like features including being able to raise and lower the landing gar as well as drop the bomb.
The newer Revell tooling actually looks like a very nicely detailed kit compared to the almost non existent interior detail of this kit

The other is the Academy 1/72 SB2C Helldiver
I have the "Operation Iceberg" release which includes photo-etch for the dive brakes and decals for all three of these

I have already built one previously using the USS Randolph markings that I built with the gear down with the intext being a taxi for takeoff type display, but really want the tri-color one of the USS Yorktown, and to build this one gear up in the middle if a bombing run

The details on this kit are very nice, especially for 1/72

I like the tri colour camo. Pantherman

This will be the thread for the dive bomber group build. Any dive bomber is acceptable. The only rule is there are no rules.
No start date has been set yet so there's time to get kits if you want to join.

Looks like I am going to have to stop lurking on here and jump into this build! I have a few dive bombers hiding out in the stash….

So... the don't do planes guy is waiting for this...
And true to form, probably a late start!

I'll be looking to build it in Mediterranean guise...
It happens, I'm the 'only do german armor' guy that has now just about built everything it would seem.

And I have to say that the variety of builds has definitely increased the fun element. Pantherman

Okay, first question: Anyone know a good source for crew figures in 1/48? I prefer to display my aircraft in flight, most of the time. After all, they are air craft.

I have the same problem

Manufacturers genera;;y seem to tool for gears down and often skip pilots/crew.

I find myself spending way too much time trying the close up the landing gear bays.

Academy has been pretty good with a few of their more recent releases and offer gear up or down options at least

are you looking for Airforce oir Navy crew?

I searched ebay for navy crew and was unsuccessful.
