This is one I've wanted to do for many, many years. I saw a video on You Tube of this unit's deployment to Afghanistan and loved the tail markings. I had a red tailed F-16 so I thought this would be a great companion. I was able to get the decals made by Dave of David's Model Works … twice … since I lost the first set in a move. I used the Tamiya 1/48 F-16 C/N kit and the weapons are from Reskit, the exhaust from Eduard and Master's pitot tube and AOA probes. At first I was not planning on putting in the pilot as is normal for my builds but in the process of referring back to the photo it suddenly jumped out at me that if I was recreating the scene from the photo then I needed to put him in. That added a great deal of work building and painting the pilot and setting him in the scene realistically with oxygen hose and kneeboarding, a map and I decided he would carry an American flag as I have seen in other photos. A lot of "firsts" for me with resin aftermarket, pastels and oil weathering and everything involved with the pilot like making the oxygen hose with the wrapped wire method. There are always things I wish would have come out better but I am glad to have finished this one finally and set it next to my red tailed Alabama A.N.G. F-16.
