Next up on the board. I think I got lucky picking this up?? But, first things first. That's right. Before you build a new model clean your area maybe do a little rearranging but once it's nice and clean I don't know about y'all but it makes me want to build something. And one other thing. Shame on Tamia. Look at that line in the canopy. I got some sanding to do

HI Rob well i presume its a 1/48th scale kit an i love fast modern jets so i will be followin your build an ever thought about fittin nav lights an landain lights as if you have now is the time to do it as i think it brings the model to life rather than just lookin stactic but up to you sir on that an fairly easy to do an yes that line in the canopy is a bugger but i just leave it in on my models as its hardly noticeable but again up to you but most important have fun on this build an are you goin for a colourfull build or a drab colour ?

Hey chris. Yes it's a 1:48 and I chose this kit because I've built several twin tail Jets and I just wanted to dumb it down a little bit this time around. I like the colors of the main plane on the box art. White black and gray. And one of these days I might put lights on a model but so far I'm flying under the radar with my wife. I don't go in for all the extras they have for building. I do like mask sets. Sometimes they come in real Handy. I like building what's in the box. If it has a pilot figure that's a bonus. If I start buying all these extras I run the risk of getting the greasy fisheye from the wife

Hello Rob. My name is Dan. I just finished that kit. It's a nice kit with lots of positive feedback but I have to say that you need to plan ahead. It offers four different versions or "blocks" and that needs to be determined first so you can follow the appropriate directions. Even then you have to be careful. The block I had selected was there but as I got towards the end of the build I found minor discrepancies that had me changing parts to match the plane I was building. Just thought I'd give you a heads up. Good luck.

Wow Dan that's a great looking plane! I like that engine exhaust. Is that what comes with the kit? And you painted it up? Nice job. I'm not that good on painting engine nozzles yet still learning the rudimentaries of it. You know? All the burnt metal and the rainbow hues and the different colors kind of eludes me but I'm hoping someday I'll get it. I learned a long time ago. Always read the instructions. At least twice. Especially on ZM kits

Thanks. If I recall correctly that was an Aires ( or maybe a Reskit) exhaust. I actually tried very carefully to get that to look accurate referencing many books and photos. It was done using Tamiya weathering sets, the powdered ones with the soft applicator and oil washes and dry brushing. Lately I've been trying all kinds of products and techniques to improve my models. I watch a lot of YouTube .

I'm with you: I prefer to display model aircraft in their native element—the air! (Shocking, I know ) So I have to either build display stands out of clear acrylic, or suspend them from something. If you hang it, make sure it's securely anchored. Without landing gear, they don't land well …

Thanks everyone. I think more model manufacturers, especially 148, I need to have more bases like this. If you want to move it you just grab the base. Super easy. You're not breaking off the landing gears and the flaps are flying all over the place. Just include a clear stand or black like this one like it's coming in for a landing or a high-speed pass?

Will not help any propellor planes but for jets I've seen clear acrylic rods inserted into exhaust nozzles used with great effect. They can be painted to simulate afterburners, and I have seen them illuminated as well. You can bend them with heat which allows for more creative solutions.

The odd thing here is that the effect works better with the eye than with the camera, which sees everything. The eye can be fooled.

Thank you. I'm really liking doing this type of splinter scheme. It's certainly looks better than my free hand camouflage which turns out to look like old man shaky bakey camouflage.

I commend you for NOT-knocking of your tail mounted pitot tube. I did several times.

Thank you Chris. It's far from done. Still got the underside in white to do. Then I'll get the black down and after that mask off the nose and spray that a little bit darker gray. And then I'll have to spray the leading edges and what I'm going to call the pinstripes. In white and black.
