the SS Rabid Empanada -- a spontaneous scritash

Thanks guys ;D

It's only going so fast because I'm working from the house currently and I can mess with it throughout the day .

I really need to go by Home Depot for paint and it'd be nice to get a couple of small bottles for mixing more tinted Future ...
BUT -- ::) :p -- I'm afraid of the Christmas shopping masses .

I should just go to the Home Depot in small-town Alvin to my east and avoid the madness to my north .

The Tuesday before Thanksgiving I ended up with the wrong paint from Hobby Lobby and when I realized it I figured " guess I won't be exchanging this till next week :p --- Uru no like crowds  ,. that Black Friday nonsense is like my own personal hell

More tonight for sure ,

U M

You got me thinking ::) ;D

It could be the private art-yacht of an eccentric airbrush master  The bulk of the hull is a fantastic gallery .
Where only his airbrush art is showcased ..
.. there's acrobats
classical musicians

cats

I also decided that we're gonna want some lighting inside of it -- you know we will ..
I know I will after getting all the colored glass installed ;)

I had to cheat slightly with material to make the starboard end removable :-X

I had to use a partial stick of .25 mm styrene strip :

20151222_163831_zpsivpusbn0.jpg

I cut the end piece out of the solar array thingy then ringed it with the strips to 3 layers .
The thing fits like a glove ;D ... I was thinking it would need some magnets but ,, 8)

The lifeboat dock is made from a piece of gutter spike ferule and that piece of PVC fall-off

And we're using the dispensing nozzle instead of the glue - cap for the engine exhaust

20151222_222032_LLS_zpsh1vrspdf.jpg

For good good reason

Heck Yeah !!

I got my palette ready :D

We got : Blu Fu , Green Fu , YellA Fu , Orng Fu and one super black Blk Fu ;D

I had to make a Black Lite Fu(ture) for shading

20151222_221637_zps5jpwhpbr.jpg

probably shouldn't practice on the final product

And now
I leave you with some refreshing breakfast music :-*

Soooo cool. Looks like it could be a manned telescope observatory for the far side of the moon!
Or a secret orbital lair for sn sirbrush-themed supervillian. Maybe he was an artist before gaininh three super powers and turning to villany underthe nname TRIPLE ACTION A

The long part could be a orbital heat-ray for scortching enemies like ants with a magnifying glass...

Overall, it's weird and garish and I love it!

. . Uh ::)
We won't explore the whole " Triple Action A " thing ..

BUT ;D

I like the death and discomfort ray 8)

I've been thinking about addressing the holes in the nose section .
Figured that could accommodate a lighting module also - just inserted thru the nose .

I'm thinking I can construct a little 'geo-dome' out of small pieces of the lighter plastic for the bow .

What's happening in SW land ?
I was hoping for more eye-candy ;D

Mr Momo

Ha Ha - awesome ;D
Happy for your viewership !
Thanks , Quaralane

I started applying color .

As you can imagine , it takes coat after coat to build up
BUT
What fun ;D ;D

I Blu-Foo'd the larger ( fuel tanks ) balls ::) blue , then blue again and again .
Started the small ( oxidizer tanks ) with the green ..
Thought I took more intermediate pics -- but you can see what's going down 8)
layering orange , yellow over green , blue then reversing etc etc

20151223_114430_LLS_zps5om9vncp.jpg20151223_121942_zpsvycxywmq.jpg20151223_121952_LLS_zps9lyhlbez.jpg20151223_133945_LLS_zpsotppkvna.jpg20151223_172923_zpstmorhgjz.jpg20151223_201605_zps3dztvgco.jpg20151223_201622_zpse0teqssn.jpg20151223_204717_LLS_zpsvkzlplg4.jpg20151223_211841_zpslvnpfd7a.jpg20151223_211914_zps7sarhu5r.jpg20151223_212008_LLS_zps0p76yvy0.jpg20151223_212327_LLS_zpsez4pldjd.jpg

more in a few hours as the color builds .
It should look much different

AND -- I'm going with the whole " airbrush-master " thing . ;D ::)

So - the ship's name is the COLOR MODERATOR .
The owner - the airbrush-master ( interplanetary fame ) is named Iggitus Biggitus

That's all I got rite now . ;)
Leaves plenty of room for character development ;D

Another interesting scratch build. ;D Love your use of pellets for thruster nozzles. 8)

Thanks , Hagoth

Good to see you ;D

So first , a few more pics of where the fuel cans have gone :

20151224_083007_zpscqpe2jih.jpg20151224_121327_zpsr3jlpwm1.jpg

Then I started on the combustor :

First - scarlet red
20151224_172209_LLS_zpsrc17rlfv.jpg

Then , silver-gray acid dye :

20151224_180446_LLS_zps3ipotzth.jpg

more red -- then a shot of yellow

20151224_202026_LLS_zpsh9opv0ul.jpg

then a back and forth to get what was needed :

20151224_230709_zpsohxuugn4.jpg20151225_022713_zpss71arupa.jpg20151225_110802_zps1pizplvb.jpg20151225_132953_LLS_zpsofrid5n7.jpg20151225_190947_LLS_zps9hzjnegc.jpg20151225_191802_LLS_zpsewtm8r1o.jpg20151225_211617_zpsxexce4ee.jpg

Using 3000 grit sponge to blend the work

20151226_131038_LLS_zpstrnsyvhy.jpg

I realized that the Modulator would need docking ports for obvious reasons .
That explains the three holes in the bow ;D

.. and every super-high-end ship would have its own handing equipment ;)

Allowing us to use the arm :

20151224_133505_zpslmttcxb3.jpg

Needed to fold it in ...
and was deciding what should be at the business end ???

-- they would need a service bay - and could bring the end of the arm in to fit it with whatever manipulator was required . For mooring or repair work etc .

So they need the service bay and door . With emergency airlock forward of main door

20151224_221645_LLS_zpskdvhnlrc.jpg

20151224_223705_zpsz7y5jdao.jpg

20151224_223530_zpsbh0kjjkh.jpg

then I thought " what about the huge art pieces that would be loaded and unloaded ? "

Iggitus would need another , bigger bay for that . Away from the engineering deck :
Directly beneath the main gallery .
The lower door opens straight in and then up along the exterior blkhd ,
The upper are casement doors - opening out ..

20151225_000802_zpstkssddci.jpg

and for this kinda money ;D you want the arm to be able to reach as far as possible .
You need the docking module rotatable 8)

I'm giving myself a Christmas cheat and using a PE joint form Wave Co

20151225_113059_zpsfqu9kmvg.jpg20151225_113628_zpszcx397gl.jpg20151225_114233_zpsxymvkif2.jpg20151226_151707_zpsc5fjaqqx.jpg

So this is where it sits currently .
Making the docking module rotatable ..
finish up the maneuvering thruster pods ( they mount to the flanks of the bottom fin )

20151226_151616_zpsv97npb4x.jpg

More color to the engine
.. about to nock-it down with the 3000 grit sanding sponge and shoot some yellow ..

20151226_151713_zpsizutghrq.jpg

Ta Da !
I think this assembly is ready
probably a bit more color on the engine combustor can

20151226_163747_LLS_zpswgqnczbq.jpg

So her scale has changed ..
Greatly .

Now that I know who this guy is and what the ship is for , it needed to be much bigger

I was going to move it up to 1/700 . That gives me a chance to compare it to 1/700 ships ,
But - it didn't make her nearly big enough :p

So in a nod to SW , since that Jason guy is the one that started all this , I'm scaling her at 1/2 the 2256 scale to 1/1128

I set the copier at 65% and it actually did exactly that ::) who woulda thunk it ? :p

20151226_145459_zps0yqkmwpf.jpg

She ain't small

I've got every piece of this ship figured out .
I'll do a call-out of the components and internal deck layouts once she is fully together .

Builder : Erosomo Heavy Industries
Deimos Naval Shipyard

Type : Private Yacht

Primary hull: 329 meters
Engineering hull including engine : 270 meters

Crew : 28

What else do they usually list ?
I don't have any idea how to calculate her mass

Cheers !

El MoMo

Absolutely georgous! It's perfect for a wealthy art collector- the paint on his yacht is a work of art unto itself- you REALLY outdid yourself (an there's more to come, obviously!).

Kinda looks like something you'd see on Coyboy Bebop- orbiting Earth- a gem among all the space debris that make a ring around the planet.

She may be smaller than first envisioned, but she's perfect for an orbital yacht/art gallery with a crew of 48 you could have Downton Abby....IN SPACE!

Awesome , Jason ;D
Thanks !

She's actually almost twice as big as first scaled ( 1/620 to 1/1128 )

I'm guessing 48 is enough with automation and droids ..
That's just ship's company for all the maneuvering , docking , maintenance ...

Iggitus would have way more additional staff . The numbers varying depending on what's going down .

::) That's that other " Triple A " fella you're thinking about ,...

;D ;)

pic from the shipyard ..
... this one change-order will pay for the New Years party :

Neodymium magnet CA'd to the arm :

Female end of poly-cap embedded with Aves epoxy sculpt .
Connecting point for arm drilled out and short part of this broken drill bit CA'd in :

I guess I need to make the arm articulated now ::)

. ... that's 4 joints :p

20151228_085412_zps0y7ozsbz.jpg

since it pops right off , I can always do it later 8)

Ciao ,

Preview of thruster placement :

20151228_123441_zpsqllg1wm1.jpg

I planned on gluing them in position - but I decided to try the magnets , , take advantage of the threaded steel support even though I figured they were too heavy .

... and they are ..
They won't fall out but they won't stay positioned much above vertical .

The nozzles are positioned for the struts to be mounted as below :
