In this the year of trying to finish old builds...literally at the bottom of a big box at the back of my closet was this old start from at least 30 years ago. Let's get it going again.

I left off with it mostly built, and in black primer.

I remembered that I had cut and straightened the wings out because I just didn't like how the design had them drooped.

A light sanding and a thorough cleaning and here we are.

It seems odd to me that you got to the point of black primer and then put it away. Is there really that much more to do?

Well lets see, about 30 years ago I was in the Air National Guard, getting my degree, working in aerospace, and raising my family. Might have been a low priority to finish a model! :)

What an odd but cool subject matter! Those old Testors kits were iffy, I have he partner/enemy version of the old Testors "stealth" aircraft in my stash too.

Nice. Any plans for building it?
From what I know about the kit, probably not. I've seen pics of completed builds and they are not making me want to try, having enough trouble getting a black plane (X-15 in my case) painted they way I see it in my mind.

I wanted this kit in my collection because I enjoyed the Microprose game "F-19 stealth fighter" back in the 1988 timeframe.

I built the 1:72 scale one very long ago, and even then thought the angular bombs were an odd thing to add. Not like it would matter much if they're carried in a bomb bay, I mean, let alone once they're dropping onto the target.

I did one of the 1/48 Testors F-19's as an aggressor. I wanted to try out the paints and colors that I was going to use on an F-16. For the heck of it I put the small forward wings on as if they were canards. The photo is not good but it's the only one I have. The model has long been in the junk box.

Omg. I built both of those kits, circa 1987. That's so awesome!

That brings back some memories. Testors glue and brush painting Testors enamel. Lol.

I so remember that game! :)

Man........you sure made quick work out of that kit Tom. Love the way your aggressor scheme came out and am also glad to hear that you made it through the older decal application in one piece. That must've been a challenge in itself!!

I have a couple of the F-19 kits in the stash. For me these kits are great for trying things like cockpit detailing and landing gear detailing and just trying things out without spending more money on aftermarket bits because there's no "right" way to build it. These are completely made up and being super accurate is not required. They can be a stress free build!
