Tamiya P/F 51 interior AM?

I have the 48th scale Tamiya F-51 and the instrument panel and rudder pedals are gone. Not sure where they are. Lost after the divorce and multiple moves. Lucky I still have the kit. The rudder pedals Im not too worried about, as those are easy. Hard part is the instrument panel. I know I can get big expensive resin set but not wanting to super detail the kit or anything and the resin cockpit cost more than the kit.

Anyone know of any 3D files I can buy on the cheap that would fit? Or maybe you have the kit and a scanner and can just lay the panel down in the scanner and scan it? I could 3D model it from that easily enough to where it would fit.

I'd pick up the Eduard photo etch set. It's about $10 on Sprue Brothers. That'll take care of your instrument panel. Don't think it includes pedals but it's a pretty simple fix to fabricate those out sheet styrene. Once it's all put together you'll barely be able to see them anyway.

I don't even have the plastic part to mount the eduard PE set to. The parts circled in red arw missing.

You might want to try calling Tamiya. They do apparently sell replacement parts. It's done per parts tree, but since your missing parts are all off the "A" Sprue, you'd only need the one. I've never done it so I don't know what the cost would be. Here's their number: 1-800-826-4922.

You could fabricate all those parts out of sheet styrene (if you were going to use the PE set as well) but if you've got a 3D printer and can find files that would certainly be a lot faster. Good luck!

You could try evilbay. People sell specific parts and entire sprues on there. I needed a canopy for a kit and found one there.

Ugh I hate evil bay but sadly youre 100% correct and I do have to use them from time to time. From my wifes account though.

If you buy the PE dash I bet you could use it to cut a sheet of "evergreen" to mount it to without much effort, maybe a test cut then a final. Might set you back less money than ordering a used or incomplete kit with shipping, and you'd have a ton of meterial left over for future needs.

Just a thought.

I've built a couple of those and if you still have the gun sight which is a clear part, just paint it and find a way to glue it in. You really can't see the instrument panel once the model is assembled even with the canopy open, without picking it up and being in really bright light or using a flashlight. Even then there isn't much to see because of the gun sight. I'd just skip it and glue the gun sight under the dash. It certainly isn't worth spending money on an aftermarket.

I get it, but I know it isnt there lol. If someone could do a scan with a flatbed scanner of the face I could easily make one.

Just to go with what was said about getting the parts from Tamiya. I screwed up decals for one of my ships and they sent me a new sheet no charge.

You should be able to take something like this (below) and adjust the size with a copier.

Literally thousands of similar pictures that could be used. If you're using a color-copier you might want to just print out the IP, because Jim is correct about being able to see it. The lower part is slightly visible with canopy in the open position, the upper part completely hidden by the cowling/fairing.

The dimensions are off for fitting. I ended up buying a P51 kit from Tamiya and just used the parts in that, along with my calipers to design new parts in fusion. The seat is definately not accurate but looks the part. I printed them out but havent cleaned them up and cured them yet. I used various photos and scans to try and make some decals but nothing matches up right, so I just kinda mixed and matched my own setup.
