Tamiya Abrams Weathering

Welcome to the Addict!
Looks like you had some fun weathering...
If anything, (unless you just haven't got there yet), I'd look at some matt paint on the duffels and packs, and they might have some weathering too, just to complete the look!
I like the exhaust round the back, and the sparse chipping on some edges.

Thanks. I did do a light brown wash on the packs. Looks better in real life than in the pictures. I wasn't sure what exactly to do with them. The ammo boxes I didn't do anything with. They do need some something.

Well done for your first go at it.
The packs and storage do look a little out of place. Maybe do a light drybrushing with a lighter shade of each base color to bring out some more detail......

Welcome aboard.

That's a heck of a good job. I have pity on those guys in the tank though. It's quite obvious they just picked the tank up at the Depot. They're all fresh off the boat. Now get your ass off base and get on that dirt road heading to the war

I looked at as many pictures as I could and to be honest most don't show any real chipping damage at all. Some. No rust either so I didn't add any. I kind of think I even did too much. But chipping is a fun technique and it's easy to get carried away.

I think you held back enough. Sure they were pretty when deployed, but they were overseas for a long time and saw abuse.

I think the figures and stowed gear could be more weathered though. Maybe not weathered but shaded. Does that make sense? Slight color variations in the helmets for example.

next time.
Yup, the great thing about this hobby: we are each on a continuum, learning as we go, new challenges with every build...
Sometimes I look at a kit and think: this would be a great opportunity to focus on a particular aspect of our craft, and push on that technique or subject; sometimes it is just about the fun!

I kind of think I even did too much.
In my opinion, for nearly all vehicles, any chipping is too much :) There are exceptions, but those are usually vehicles that were poorly painted or with incompatible paints, or that have stood outside unused and uncared-for for quite some time. Any vehicle that's been properly maintained will not show any chipping, really.

That said, for some years I've been wanting to build a Bradley like this:

Actual missing paint seems to be mostly scratches on the side skirts, from driving too close to hard, sharp terrain features, and the paint getting thin on the fibreglass of the bore evacuator. Judging by the taillight guard, there may also be worn paint on the engine deck, but that's impossible to say from here. The dark band near the bottom of the turret is where the strip with laser sensor for the fire simulation system was once attached. It could be that removing it also took off paint there, but I get the impression that what's visible is dirt stuck in the remains of the glue that held the strip to the tank. Everything else looks to me like it's mostly dirt, oil, soot and/or rust.
