Hi blakeh1,

I was just looking what kind of colors I would use. I am thinking to make mine a bit darker. The Ref. pictures from the game are not that clear. But I think I will not make the contrast between the dark and light parts that big.
I will post some sample colors as soon as I get to it.

I looked at some of your other pictures as well. What kind of models are the B-Wing and Y-Wing. Are they all the same scale?

The most star wars models I have are all different scales. I do not understand that at all.

At any rate, looking forward to your paint scheme!

I love to see people tackle this model since you so rarely see it and it is a pretty cool design.

The X-wing minis game just released a version of it (or at least I saw it for the fiirst time last week at my local gaming store). They are calling it a Star Viper. They have rules for the Virago version

While the scheme may be lighter than your going for, it gives a good reference for some other markings and details you could take advantage of (like the symbol on the wings, the green lights etc...

The B-wing and Y-wings are 1/72. The B-wing was mastered by Al Wong and released by Fantastic Plastic, although it may see a future rerelease by Multiverse (MVM) models

The Y-wings are Fine Molds and Revell. Both are 1/72. The Revell kit is the one with the thinner neck and shorter engine rods

As far as the scale of the Virago your working on. I think someone scaled it out to somewhere around 1/60 th

Hi blakeh1,

Thanks for the info. I like the logo on the wings. We will see ;)

Wow - great progress on this

Re: SCI-FI Star Wars Shadows of the Empire - Xizor's Virago

I did not have any time to work on my model this weekend. But I did visit our local miniature and model fair, in the Netherlands. Lots of agricultural vehicles, RC cars, trains and boats. Only two stands with scale models. :(
Nothing sci-fi related. I made a small youtube movie to show you what a Dutch model fair looks like.

I plan to rent a table next year and show some of my dad's models (lots of wooden boat models) and my sci-fi models. Including the Xizor's Virago of course.

Did not have a lot of time this week to work on the Virago. But managed to fill in the pannel lines of the wings.

Panel lines look great. Wow some very cool subjects at the fair; those carival scenes with the lights are very cool.

A real interesting subject!! Looking great! Keep it coming! ;)

Re: SCI-FI Star Wars Shadows of the Empire - Xizor's Virago

Tonight I will try to fill the light panels.

@ Scott: The Person who build the carnival scenes, bought one scene. But the rest he build from scratch. They looked really amazing. One of them even and a small smoke machine in it.

Those wings are looking nice man ;)

Re: SCI-FI Star Wars Shadows of the Empire - Xizor's Virago

So a small update. I did a lot of painting and still not done. I need to repaint some parts of the wings but they are almost finished. Then finish the main body. Still to go are the guns and the engines and the stand.

Coming along great.

Re: SCI-FI Star Wars Shadows of the Empire - Xizor's Virago

I painted the stand for the model. I want to light the inside circle, so I cut it out. Now I am looking for something red to diffuse the light trough.

Re: SCI-FI Star Wars Shadows of the Empire - Xizor's Virago

Last night I painted the guns. I only need to weather them and place them on the main hull.

I also finished the engines. I drilled them out and added a part that is used in the faucet. I do not know how it is called in English. But here is a picture.

Last night I weathered the guns a bit, by dry brushing it with a matt black. Then I mounted the guns on the main body.

I hope to finish the main body tonight, so I can fix the seams and

Tonight I found the red transparent part I was looking for. I cut a bit out of a ketchup bottle (an empty one of course). There are some stripes in it, but if I light it from the back you will not see them. I bought a picture frame at the dollar store (Action for the Dutch people) and printed a nice red star sky as background.

Re: SCI-FI Star Wars Shadows of the Empire - Xizor's Virago

I remember when this ship came out... was amazed they actually made this ship from a video game instead of one that should have been made from the movie (like the sand crawler or the blockade runner). Mind you it looked cool, but I guess my OCD kicks in when I see it on the shelf and just couldn't convince myself to pick one up. You're doing an awesome job on it thou. Really love the gradient on the name plate. Very nicely done!

Re: SCI-FI Star Wars Shadows of the Empire - Xizor's Viragoareadf

Indeed, there are so many ship in star wars, but there are only a few models made.
This model is very rare in the Netherlands, so I could not leave it. And it was very cheap. The owner of the shop did not know what he was selling.

Re: SCI-FI Star Wars Shadows of the Empire - Xizor's Virago

Yeah that nameplate is nice!
