PLAN TYPE 056 CORVETTE 1/200 from bath toy to respectable model

i was going to build the 1/350 trumpeter version, but when it arrived it was too small for my taste and eyes. i found this 1/200 on ebay , very cheap , but its more toylike. however, there are many 3d printed components available that can bring it to the next level. opening the box, i was actually pleasantly surprised at the quality of the mouldings. these small ships are so super sleek and cool to look at i had to do one. i cut out the mooring deck ports and installed some pe railing inside so far. cut away the moulded missile launcher mounts and will ready the area for the 3d printed units which are very nicely done. this should turn out pretty nice in the end.. its a quick satisfying build before i dive into another longer project.

hull painted, decks and superstructure painted, deck installed. have to do some touchup . installed some PE hatches and doors.

HI Domer94 yes you are right sir this does look quite a good ship kit an yes when you fit on this after market parts it will really look the part as i like ships an i will be buildin a 1/200 scale USS HORNET for the dolittle raid after ive finished my big phantom

i always chuckle at the "motorized" kits the companies have put out there... the last two i built had rather elaborate twin screw reduction gear sets included with the motor and battery holders... but i continue to think .. who is building this thing and running it in a tub or swimming pool? would seem anticlimactic to me.

well , in the home stretch .. no pun intended on derby day. a couple of more sessions for railings and "this and that", so tonight , i did many of the "super lifts" and installation of armament and coms and main mast structure. i used 1/200 aftermarket main gun , main surface search radar, missile launchers, aftermarket decals for the flight deck and warning circles. i do have an aftermarket helo , but it looks really big for some reason... will have to decide if i want to install it. i think she graduated from "motorized bathtub toy" at least! one issue i have is finding flight deck netting in this scale... i dont know why it isnt produced .. i can find some 1/350 , but its not right. been thinking about how to fab up some without it lookin sketchy. so heres the progression of tonight's work

pretty much wrapped up tonight... added some goodies... life rings on bridge wings, ladders , chain rail on aft deck , firefighting reel on the flight deck , anchor chain. mounted on her stand. i may decide to add a couple of fire hose stations on deck... all in all , for 24 bucks for the kit , and maybe 35 more for aftermarket stuff (which i have left overs for others now) it was a nice 1/200 build on a not too common subject. if i ever come across flight deck netting , ill add it.. so thinking forward, i may shift gears to a commercial vessel and take a break from the grey. i have a MENG steamer from "The crossing " that has been on the brain

Didn't break the bank, judicious use of aftermarket, great execution.
Next project sounds equally engaging.
