I Guys

Another day another project! Been doing a lot of military stuff the last few months so I thought I'd have a crack at an Ma.k Fliege that I had in the stash.

As it's a space based suit I wanted to do something portraying low gravity on the surface on another planet.

I painted up the figure and interior as they will be sealed in when complete

Unfortunately most of these isn't on view when the visor is in place

I am going to model this in a dynamic pose catching hold of a transmitter antenna whilst floating through the low gravity. To create the antenna I epoxied 3 bamboo skewers together to make a strong foundation to hold the Fliege then raided the parts bin for some accessories as well as using some plastic stock.

I also made a box out of balsa sheet and then filled it with plaster to hold the antenna in and give some weight to balance the weight. Well I half filled the box as I ran out of plaster! Below is the final pose, I need to epoxy the joints for strength and then add Milliput to create the flexible joint covers

Also to ensure the hand can hold the weight I epoxied the hand to the antenna and will fix it all back together after painting

That's all for now, thanks for looking!

Had to be patient this week with the Fliege

Once I set the limb positions I had to glue the joints to tack them in place, then I used 2 part epoxy to make the bond strong as all the weight will be hanging off them. After leaving them a night to cure I then used Milliput to create the flexible joint covers using a toothpick to sculpt the details. This was particularly tricky where the legs join the body as there was just a big hole. I first used plastic card to fill the gap and then Milliput again for the covers. I also used plastic cement and an old cut down brush to add texture mainly to the body and also some 20 thou plastic rod for some weld beads as well as some bolt detail

I'll soon be able to get the paint on

Maschinenkrieger build? Yeah, count me in! :) Looks very good so far. Simple and veryconvincing solution with the antigrav/flying effect.

Loooking forward to more!

Thanks Guys

Another quick update, got plenty done this weekend.

I finally got all the construction done and got onto the painting. First a coat of Vallejo RLM65 blue, then some masking with Tamiya tape to create the camo, then a whitened down version of the blue. Then I painted the details in with a brush and then added the decals which are a mix of the kit ones and some from the stash. The last step was a filter with AK blue / brown wash thinned down. The base was then completed with plaster followed by a some paint, white glue & bicarbonate of soda to create the texture. Then I airbrushed the antenna followed by another filter. Once complete I got onto the scary bit which was mating the figure and it's hand. I used 2 part epoxy again and propped it up until cured.

Nearly done now, just got to do the final bit of touching up and light weathering.

Looking good - coming along nicely! :D

I think it's interesting that you used weld beads to hide seams. I like that, it's got to be easier, too, yes? Seams give me fits, I bet I spend more time hiding seams than most any other part! ;D

Great build! I love the texture you created on the torso, and the weld seams. I agree with Daf57, that was a great idea to apply weld seams to some of the kit seams. The whole vignette is really nicely staged, very dynamic.

Great work. Your technique looks very solid, clean work. The weld seams are a very cool touch. Props!

Thanks for the comments guys. Hopefully be able to finish this one up in the next few days!

Hi Guys

Got this one finished off, I added the hydraulic pipes, the antenna thingys and touched a few things up here and there. Also got a chance to break out the black back drop for the first time whilst photographing!

I probably could have added a bit more weathering but I was tying to model the Fliege as if it had spent most of its time in space, so no rust or water marks. Anyway I'm happy with the way it turned out, as always comments welcome

Thanks for looking

Great job man. You really cranked this out. Good call on not weathering...it fits this setting great as is.

That looks really cool, like he's about to set foot on the moon. Really nice way to build a scene, I love it!
