From Vigilante to Hasegawa F-15J. My wife works for a Japanese company and her boss is moving back to Japan so we decided to build a JASDF F-15J...I'm pretty pleased at the start.

That much putty on a Hasegawa kit surprises me but then I've not built this kit. Looking good so far.
Doesn't fit well at all, especially at the intake fuselage and wing attach points. What will be interesting is this F-15J had a $14.00 price point and if I'm not certain it is a C series less expensive kit. I purchased the more expensive $25.00 kit and will see if the joints are tighter.

Moving along, the O-2 will be Dad's B-day present, he flew that and OV-10 Broncos.....happy with it for the most part but made some clear piece mistakes. Happy with the F-15J the way it is coming along. Don't like the Camo as much and I want to darken up the nose a touch....looks artificial

Both builds look fantastic. What paints did you use on the F-15? The darker color is more blue than that on the real jets. Just an observation. Wish I had your skill.

So, I think the F-15J or even the F-15C has more of a sky blue gray color, but I kind of a guy who paints straight from a bottle and I tried to find the sky blue and couldn't find it so I went with this model air colors

Coming along well with the F-15 and like you.....I tend to paint straight from the bottles/ jars. Good choice on the Vallejo colors.

O-2 is looking good to with the prep work you did on the paint and then the effects bleeding through the color coats. Looks great. Saw the clear piece problems and I had pretty much the same thing happen to me with my Revell Corsair build where there was a gap at the rear of the glass to fuselage join. I ended up using Testors Clear Parts Cement to fill the gap and applying color over the cement strip to get everything to look right.

Might be an older color set? The C models wear very bluish paint these days. Those sets are very convenient though. Great results.

I've built this same F-15J kit. This is Hasegawa's legacy Eagle kit from the '70s, with raised panel lines and primitive cockpit interior. The engine cans are essentially solid cups and there are no intake turbines. Hasegawa's newer tooling came out in the '80s I believe, and you build up the engine nozzles with individual actuator rods, piece by piece, around in a circle. Here is my build from a few years back. I'm currently working on an F-15DJ and I'm tempted to start on another Hasegawa F-15J and use the Eduard colored photoetch on the instrumentation panels

Very nice work!! I also went out and bought the newer kit for myself. I'm pretty pleased with the way this one is turning out and will be a great going away gift for my wife's japaneese boss as he leaves for Japan in December. I also have the USAF retooled F-15C from Hasegawa.

Get the colored photoetch set by Eduard, specifically made for Hasegawa's F-15 kits. It adds nice detail.
