Started this because I like having an armor kit going. Lots of small parts and lots of detail. Tracks are straight sections for long runs and build the curves- sorry I'm still tired and can't think of what that's called! My wife is on call this weekend so I should get plenty of bench time!!

Also, asked in my club meeting last Saturday, what the general consensus was on painting camo on top of tools and accessories versus adding them later, particularly crew artifacts like packs, mess kit, gear.
Answer was about 50-50 between painting over it or adding it after. When meeting was over a former (US) army vet came over and said "if the items was over 100 pounds (give or take) they'd paint right over it", had more to do with laziness than edict. If is were easy to remove like a shovel, they'd take it off. Of course everything varied, but I see your cable cutters and jack are already glued on. Which reminded me of this recent conversation.

I couldn't sleep last night so got up and started working on this. In my state of mind I didn't recognize it was a jack or cable cutter! Normally I leave all tools off until I'm weathering. This morning when I took pics I realized what I had done and I'm leaving it at this point.

Which is the model kit brand of the biggest model retailer in Europe, Modellbau-König. They started bringing out kits originally made by other manufacturers, usually with new markings and/or parts added, and then whole new kits through deals with the actual manufacturers. Similar to what AHHQ does in the US, basically.

The best guide is to look at photos
There are plenty of pictures of German tanks where the camouflage goes over the pioneer tools, but the tools themselves were in their "factory colours" rather than dark yellow before the camouflage was sprayed over them. On American vehicles, you might find the same if the vehicle had been given black or (less commonly) field drab camouflage, but another thing there is that some US tools came from the factory dip-painted in olive drab, so OD tools on an entirely OD tank is possible even without the crew ever having touched a paintbrush. (Also: sandbags on US tanks. If a tank had racks for sandbags fitted, ca. late 1944 and beyond, it was often sprayed after the sandbags were put into those.)I primed and painted a base coat today. I was going to try to do the thing where you glue the wheels together but don't glue the back ones to the tank, and then build the tracks and take off as one assembly but the idler and the other sprockety-thing are pressed on with a rubber fitting so it doesn't slide easily on and off. So I did a modified version of that. Anyway these are the best tracks I've built so far and bothe look good this time! I'm going to leave the engine access panel open on this kit. Need to adjust the left panel cover, it's off a bit but trying to work it off I'm afraid it is going to break so I may just glue that one down.

RE: The Carpet Monster. You may know this already, but someone on Reddit recommended using a lint roller to find dropped pieces. I've since found that to be quite useful.

That is a good idea! I will be replacing the carpet with tile but I understand that has a different set of problems!
Nice! The extra detail definition always worth the effort.
Looking for reference photos- I know late in the process, trying to determine what I want to add as far as weathering. I need to scale back some of the chipping I did on the back wheels but this isn't about that. Just musings. I'm in no way a pacifist but the more I look at historical pictures and see "enemies" that are no different than Americans, the idea of war just seems barbaric- which it is. I mean the whole premise is basically either a country is wanting to take from others and n a brutal fashion or peace talks have failed so now we move to base movements of violence. I almost feel like a pacificist except that I absolutely believe military efforts are a necessary evil. Anyway, was looking at a German soldier and wondering how much he actually believed in what he was doing and how much was just societal pressure and being caught in the movement. Did he have a family? Was he considered a "good" man? If I met him in other circumstances could we have shared a beer and some laughs? Damn, any more thinking like this and I'll be selling poppies for peace. Haha.
