I went digging around in a seldom used closet and found this guy stashed away in a box! I started it about 3+ years ago and set it aside due to other outside projects. It was to represent a friends plane he bought from the Santa Fe Police Department. His was a P337 which is pressurized. I'm finishing up the Belly Tanker so I guess this guy is a quick "next build".

Check out this old box! I don't even remember Hawk models as a kid!

Nice. I have two O-2 in work from a while back that I was just eyeing to maybe pick up again.

I've got an O2 in the stash and was lucky enough to get a ride in an authentic O2 back in 1990. The downward visibility of the O2 over the 337 is impressive! The "Mixmaster" was a vital aircraft in the war in Viet Nam.

Finished this guy up a week or so ago, at least enough to put on a shelf. I just can't throw a model out. Here's some photos and comments.

Finished painting black trim and details similar to a real 337 I've seen. Didn't do an N number, kept it pretty simple.

Super difficult peeling masking tape off after sitting for about 3 years in a closet!!

The kit overall is pretty rough, lots of joints and seams don't line up well. Used sprue to create exhaust pipes and drilled the ends out. Sawed the gaps between the flaps and wings in most places but wasn't happy with the results. More patience and skill needed on my part. I have done rudder and flaps deflection on a couple models and would like to practice that more. Period pictures show "drooped" elevator, tail wheels turned at an angle, etc. More realism in the display If technique gets better.
Anyway, a cool airplane that will take up shelf space until a better build takes it's place.

I think that the worse the kit, the more one learns from building it. Sometimes it's even fun. I do remember Hawk™ kits from my childhood, and I think you've done this one about as well as possible.
I've only built a couple of old kits but have enjoyed them all. …maybe they should charge more for difficult kits since it's also teaching us skills!🤣

Thanks for the comments guys. I think you're right about always gaining something from the build, whether it's difficult OR smooth sailing. Spending the time "working plastic" is always time well spent.
At least I'm not building the planes with firecrackers built into them like I did as a kid!
