Bandai , Mecha Collection #15

;D

. . with lazer turrets ?

- Celebration Cannons -

I've already re-primer'd her in gray prepping for darker colors .
I'd post a pic but Photobucket is being a ---------.
Ah - Photobucket . One of the few steam-powered websites left ::)

I very much love these ideas . Keep it coming ;D

I'm waiting on that Metalizer until I make a decision .

Cheers ,
Uru

In SW EVERYTHING has defensive weapons at the least
Though you could leave them off and scratch landing pads or zero-g pools (forcefields would maintain atmosphere as in hangar bays).
Leaving off the guns sure makes her a sleeker design- and you could add a big radar/comms dish there- or one of those "observation deck on a stick" things SW does on big ships (Mon Cal, transports, etc).

Or do your "bic lighter trick" and make fuel tanks- change her into an old beat up tanker with a fun to do chipped paint scheme
It seems no one ever developed a droid to maintain a ship's paint job.

I could still see the dent ::) :p

... and I broke the port mast piece off again .
like 4 times now .
I'll leave it off until the end ...

It will be Metalized when it appears again ;)

Once she's metalized, it'd be cool to see some transparant grey (maybe blue?) hull decals over it- like the generic set SSM used to sell.
Hmmm..you could always add some Tamiya clear coats for a showroom finish!

I have no idea what to expect .

I think I'll paint the panels alternating black , blue and green ,, with one maybe two yellows .

Then do the Metalizer ;D

Haven't abandoned her ;D

As soon as these dry - Vallejo Blue Violet & German Cam. Dark Green -- I'm doing a blue on the center and probably red or a yellow aft ..
.. I think this will be like pottery glaze , you don't know what it's going to look like until it's fired ;D - or ' Metalized ' in this case

as you might have noticed - I broke BOTH of the mast pieces off this time ::) ;D

.............. I ain't gonna worry about it for now .

I'm not concerned with fine detail either -- or I would have airbrushed it -- I'm hopefully playing to the strengths of the Metalizer .
The paint is mixed with gloss medium and I'll clear-coat the thing once the paint is cured .

We'll see what happens soon enough ;)

Later ,

Looking great- you'll need to get crazy with scale-weathering with those dark colors- I'd suggest masking a pattern and then using padtel dust- grey and dark green would be a good blend to tone down the colors.

It's going to look COMPLETELY different after the Metalizer .

I haven't done any practice with it --- this is the test ;D

No weathering in the forecast

Vallejo Dark Blue & Scarlet

I'll give it till tomorrow night before I gloss-coat the thing . . . prob Metalize her Tuesday night 8)
The paint is like 60%-75% Gloss , slow-dry acrylic medium .
.. takes a while to cure with the retarder but it will be hard ,smoooth and shiney
Just what the Metalizer says it likes ;D

I'm not worried about the panel lines - They'll be solid black after it's done .
,, or maybe gold ??? - need to see what happens

I like the transparent hull decal Idea , Jason .
Could I do them on a cheapo , Canon ink-jet ?
Maybe you have some ?

I'm thinking of fabricating a new , nifty replacement mast out of PE brass 8)

.. . just to stick-it to the Modeling Gremlins ;D

Ciao

That put an interesting finish on it. I really like what it did to the black. Harder to tell with the lighting on the other colors but you can see a difference.

What was it like applying it? Could you mask off a pattern and just metalize inside the masking and get a good edge? If so this could create a cool reflective contrast pattern.

LOL - that's just a really heavy gloss-coat ;D

She's on her way to the Metalizing yard in that pic ....

In fact , 2200 is in about 30 minutes . ;)
I had done some touch-up and sprayed more gloss-coat on her last night so I wanted it all to fully cure before I go rubbing on it .

Be posting some Metalized pics here shortly --- sounds like it's pretty simple .

I've got my assortment of Tamiya swabs to help out in the nooks and crannies 8)

Oh , and those panels aren't black , but German Dark Cammo Green

Interesting . ;D

I don't know how well I did with the application .
You're basically just buffing the surface with the stuff . very little nec .

It does some interesting photography tricks ;)

Here's what it looks like curbside .
You really almost can't see the purple -- it looks all smokey dark .

I have a couple of top-coat crap-ups that I saw right before I did this but ignored them .
Other than that and where I scratched the port side with the plastic handle of the applicator ::) - It looks preety good ...

Photo'd with the camera in Auto :

.... And the fun part -
With the camera set to night mode :

I don't know what the camera software is seeing , , intensifying all the scattered wavelengths i guess , but I like that a lot ;D ;D

Tell me what you think .

I think I could have used a bit less but I have nothing to base that on :p ;D
I'd prefer the red tail not be so smokey ,, but I still like it

The stuff definitely has mega uses !
Another product to experiment with ( as I look around for another victim .. )

I decided to buff it quite a bit more .. see if I could 'thin-out' the smokiness :D
..it seemed to lose the luster ??? - I could see that I removed a small amount with the Q-tip polishing , but I don't think enough to matter :p ???

so I repeated the process and then clear-coated it .
I'm using my favorite : RustOleum gloss acrylic .

I can't get it to do anything near the photo-trick goodness .
Obviously either the clear-coat , the re-polish or both did something ... ( thinking the top-coat )

Curious to see if it changes any after the acrylic gloss-coat fully cures 8)

Tomorrow I want to hi-lite the panel lines .
I haven't decided on the color . Could go anywhere from green to blue to white to yellow ;D

Here's what it looks like with the clear-coat ,, until tomorrow

Pretty much returned it to normal , glossy , boring
But I buffed out the earlier scratches ;D

Most likely hi-lite the panel lines then Metalize it again tomorrow ;D ;D

I ordered 3 more of these things ;D

I do love her lines ..
Way more than any other 2199 ship
