The black and white palette of the Giraffe is getting me down , Man . :p

I want to play with some happier colors during dry times with the Giraffe moving into filters and weathering ... with a break from scratching ;D

These Bandai kits are exactly $2.60 each at the current exchange rate ;D

I really like the shape and color scheme on this one :

Let's see what happens ..

I'm not 2199 Starblazers literate ,, so don't expect canon ;)

Happy Happy Thanksgiving ! ;D ;D

They can definitely be fun. I built the Yamato from those sets a good while back

They're not posted here anymore, but the pics are still over on my Photobucket

Cool .

I haven't started it yet .. . your pics make me want to do the Yamato first ;D

Ciao

The Murasame is an excellent choice. Unless I'm mistaken, this ship design is unique to the 2199 and not the original Yamato show. It's design doesn't necessarily scream "THIS IS A SHIP FROM YAMATO!", thus making it very accessible to modelers who aren't really into the series.

Well , now I know it's name ;D

The packaging is 100% Japanese excepting "Bandai" and "Mecha Collection"

Thanks ,
Uru

OOOOOOO :D :D :D

I like this ship doubly-more now that I see all of it !
Very cool layout ............. might need to build it at 1/200 scale ....
::) ::) better find out how big it is @ 1:1

Some pics so far of the Murasame build :

Those parts have no issues but there was mondo flash/misalignment on part #20

I hear about people saving all their sprues . For what I have no Idea . :-\
I only save aberrant sprue ;D ;)

Like above . Runners that have nice bends or transitions that can be used in scratch building or really heavy runners , etc --
So actually very little .

More pics with primer next .

Uru

.
Not fantastic . :(

The rattle-can gave me a lovely texture .
Fortunately this primer is easy to sand but I'll need to give it a day .
easy to fix but an unnecessary step :p

I really like the heavy 'panel-lines ' .

That most upper superstructure is going to require some work to make it pretty :p

Ciao

The Murasame in 1937

These look like a fun set of builds. I like the WWII history pic thrown in there.

Yeah , Definitely worth $2.60 ;D

The Murasame certainly has changed a bit since her WW2 incarnation ;)

Here she is in contemporary form :

I'm definitely not using the kit's base .
I'm toying with ideas ..

20151128_215739_zpsuyu2abb9.jpg

With the quarter set into a slightly larger hardwood round -- probably blood-wood to tie to the red on the hull.

Maybe . :p
The quarter only makes sense as a scale --- - Suggestions welcome .

I definitely want it sitting much higher than the kit's base provides .

Gonna sand out the primer tomorrow . What a pain :(

Happy Happy ;D

Cheers !

Yeah, names like Yamato, Yukikaze, and Murasame were names of actual Japanese battleships during WWII. FWIW, Murasame is pronounced moo-rah-sah-meh with no intonations (in case anyone's curious).

You mean IJN warships ..
The Yamato is the only battleship there . The other two being destroyers ;)

You are correct, Urumomo. I meant "battleship" in a generic sense of "big boats with guns 'n stuff on them to make other boats blow up 'n stuff."

;D ;D
I can like that definition ;)

Just sat down to finally sand the primer problem away on the Murasame .... post some pics later tonight .

Cheers !

Getting back to where it needs to be ...

20151204_003255_zpsnpxswvda.jpg

I just noticed that crater on the port side , just below the mast . ??? ???
What Tha ?!
I went back to the photos and it's not there in the beginning and exists in the primed pics ... :p :p

I vaguely remember it hitting the floor once -- but the thing's so light and the plastic is FAR from soft ? and it would need to hit the point or corner of something ... Whaaa ? Very odd . ::)

Oh well . Putty .

I also removed a fair amount of material from the mast . Back closer to the box art .
It might need a little more :

20151204_002944_zpsknvrvxpn.jpg

.......... I'm thinking of using a different color scheme ....

Nite

Round 3 - point - sumthin ::)

Looking at the box-art I realized that the mast needed way more material removed .

I got a little aggressive with the blade and broke off the port side :p .
Fixed it of course ,, this is really good styrene ;D . dense . easy to machine and glues well .
Thanks , Bandai ;)

So , the dent in the side is fixed - I need to replace the original, rectangular 'window'? detail that the putty obliterated .

20151205_094633_LLS_zps7sfirivw.jpg

The mast is probably as lithe as it will get .. . maybe a bit more file work :-\ :

20151205_094700_LLS_zpsohak1bwz.jpg20151205_100111_LLS_zpsvmtss0q4.jpg

I'm doing the same colors but toning down the red . Less orange-y

Cheers ,
Uru
