So, I'm a total greenhorn at airbrushing. I'm using acrylic paints and was having trouble with the paint not sticking. I noticed that the clear coat I'm using has a bit more of a syrupy thickness to it and that it seems to adhere better. So, as an experiment, I decided to mix some of the clear with the white I'm using on my Apollo 11 model. Maybe about 10% clear to 90% white. It actually seems to be helping. Did I just get lucky? Or does this actually make sense?

Hmmmph, glad it worked- I have no idea.
I'm sure one of the paint experts will discuss this.
I use Acrylics primarily, (with Rattle Can for bodies, typically).
I don't know why your Acrylics weren't sticking, but I can say, every issue where I've had that was related to surface prep, either my primer coat or sanded surface was contaminated.
I've also mixed my Acrylics too thin- which makes them run, on top of not cover.
I'll take luck over skill any day.
Post photos of how it turns out and good luck!!

Will do!

you're just adding resin .
the clear is resin without pigment
And possibly a higher quality of resin than in the actual paint? Either way, I was pleased that it's helping. The paint is kinda a bargain basement paint. The clear is (I think) a better brand.
