So towards the end of last year I threw together Airfix's little Ferret Scout car - I didn't post up any photo's at the time but this is where I got to.

After a few hours of painting and a few other bits, this is where I am now - my attempt at a Cypress/Aden scheme.

I still have a fair bit to do painting and weathering wise, and I also want to add a bit of stowage to the rear deck - not much but maybe just a box and a tarp. Decals have also got to be added, as well as the sand mats and a few other bits.

Cheers!

Nice... Like the camo scheme, solid build; I find Scout cars so interesting for the design choices required to balance armour, armament, weight, speed and cross-country ability.

Every time I come across this kit I get the urge to buy it even though it was post war.
I do have a Humber, an AEC and a Dingo in the stash, maybe I should get to them!

Yes it's a shame that Airfix don't kit some WWII Scout cars as this is really rather nice (if a bit clunky in places) - thankfully I build a bit of British Cold War armour so it fits LOL!

I do love these little scout cars though, all of those you have I fancy building at some point. I really must get my hands on a Gecko Daimler mk.II as well.

That Gecko kit apparently has a suspension that's very tricky to build. To the extent that somebody designed a 3D printed replacement just to avoid that.
I can believe that after seeing a couple of builds - hopefully they'll be some replacement parts available when I get mine!

Worse, apparently. IIRC they made part of the bracket out of etched brass that you have to fold into shape around the springs and things.

Aha, here we go:—
a suspension set that replaces the kit suspension, which consists of about a million parts and isn't really accurate either.
However, I notice Eelke hasn't put the suspension on his Cults3D page so I guess the only way to get it is to contact him directly.

Thanks for the info Jakko - that's really worth knowing. I'll have a read of the thread.

Thats pretty cool! I recently saw a video that included an interview with the British soldier who drove the Ferret that is depicted in the model made by Airfix. The video has images of the real Ferret in Iraq.

Thanks for sharing that Glen, I'll have a watch.

Best way, if you ask me :)

Those Citadel washes, I don't suppose you know if any of them is a match for the old Devlan Mud? (Which stank like a sewer — literally — but was a very good shade colour for olive drab.)

I think the Agrax Eathshade is supposed to be the replacement, although from having a quick read on the internet it's not as brown. I've never actually used Devlan Mud so I can't comment sadly. I used to really like Citadel washes and I've been using these two shades for years on undercarriage, engines and such like, although this is my first go at using them on the surfaces of an armour build.
However I've noticed with these new bottles that it now dries to a gloss, which it never used to and is rather annoying. Apparently there is an additive called INSTAR Matte+ which mixes well with them and knocks the shine off, so I might actually give that a try.

I really do wish these

I like them a lot better than things like MIG or Italeri washes. The Army Painter ones are translucent paints, like Tamiya's clear yellow, clear, red, smoke etc. rather than water-thin with a lot of pigment, like the others I mentioned. Because they're the thickness of paint, they're much easier to work with, and they can be thinned to flow more (and cover less) if you need them to.

I keep getting tempted but I always say next time.
