After finishing up the Protector, and wanting to build while waiting on the arrival of my 1/1000 refits, I decided to do a bashup on a Reliant I picked up off Evil Bay.

I'd picked up some various mods for this, including:
Saucer correction kit and Shuttlebay from Federation Models
Ascension Class nacelles from Federation Models
Saucer mounted deflector from PNT.

We start like I did with the Odysseus, and get a plan of how I want to work.
Here are the basic schematics, modified from my own "Breakstone" class

One of the first things I did was lay out the cuts in the hull.
I won't actually be MAKING said cuts until I have the hull halves glued together.

"Hull Correction" parts glued into place on the lower hull.

Resin shuttlebay assembled, and awaiting primer.

Now, the real fun begins:
Making the PNT deflector work with the different shape of the Reliant hull took a bit of modification from the work it fit it into the Enterprise.
Since the grid doesn't line up completely, and the hull has a different profile, I opted to take a different path and modify both parts to fit my needs.

The new deflector has been glued into place, and basic putty work has been done using Aves Apoxie Sculpt.
The Nacelles have been epoxied together as well, but will need some work once dry.

Re: A New Bash Begins--ISS Amazon--WIP 02/14

Update on the build:
Got the struts assembled tonight, then made the cuts to get the pieces I needed for the Amazon.
Removed the middle of the strut with a razor saw to give me the phaser cannons and my strut pieces.

Here we have the struts mounted to the nacelles.
I need to go in now, and fill the joint as well as the slots for the Enterprise struts and a couple of air bubbles in the noses of the nacelles

Re: A Reliant Bash--ISS Amazon--WIP 03/02

After filling the strut slots and air pockets in the nacelles, I sanded the putty work tonight.

After gluing the shuttlebay into the main hull, I glued the upper and lower halves together.
Then, with a cutting disk in my Dremel, I made the rough cutouts in the hull.
I did my best to stay 1/8" to 1/16" off my guide lines to allow for error.

Re: A Reliant Bash--ISS Amazon--WIP 03/02

Small update tonight.

Took my Dremel, with a sanding drum this time, and cleaned up the rough hull cuts.
Also brought them even with my guide lines.
Then I took some sheet styrene and glued it in place with CA to fill the gaps.
Another round with the Dremel to even things out, and I called it a night.

Re: A Reliant Bash--ISS Amazon--WIP 03/02

Thanks, guys.
Had to fix one of the long filler panels as the CA popped off.
Luckily, it seems that Testor's liquid cement will bond that plastic to the kit styrene.

I also cast the torpedo tubes (using the Reliant kit parts as a pattern) and finished assembly of the phaser cannon.
Tomorrow, I'll likely try to start working on some seam filling on the main hull.

Re: A Reliant Bash--ISS Amazon--WIP 03/02

Okay, got off my lazy butt and decided to post more pics of her tonight:

Here, we have the mostly finished phaser cannon assemblies.
They still need to be trimmed to the correct angle on the model.
Also on this pic are the plasticene molds I'm using for the castings of the torpedo tubes. The resin hasn't set up yet, but is in process.
http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45/quaralane/Trek/Federation-non-Canon/Amazon-ISS-Breakstone/amazon-ISS-14.jpg

Torpedo tubes after being pulled from the molds, cleaned up a little, and cut to the size I'll need for the model.
http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45/quaralane/Trek/Federation-non-Canon/Amazon-ISS-Breakstone/amazon-ISS-15.jpg

Basic assembly now complete.
Nacelles are in place, as are the torpedos, phaser cannon, bridge, deflector and sensor dome.

At this point, I'll likely primer her up tomorrow night and see what I'm up against as far as additional sanding goes.

Re: A Reliant Bash--ISS Amazon--WIP 03/08

All right. Was unable to primer due to rain last night, but I got her primered tonight.

At this point, I'm seriously considering keeping her a base grey, rather than painting her white.

I also printed up her markings, and a set of Arthur Pendragon's Reliant aztecs for her.

Re: A Reliant Bash--ISS Amazon--WIP 03/10

Okay, FINALLY have some more updates.

Got a new shipment of blank decal paper and set to work getting them ready.
Using custom registry markings I laid out in Paint Shop Pro, as well as Arthur Pendragon's free Aztec plating for the Reliant.
Was going to use enlarged versions of the decals someone here made for the 1/1000 refit, but have since changed my mind.
http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45/quaralane/Trek/Federation-non-Canon/Amazon-ISS-Breakstone/amazon-ISS-20.jpg

All right, basic detail painting is more or less done.
Most of the dark areas shown here are just a black wash over the primer coat.
I also gave the outboard nacelle grills, "chillers", and "intakes" a similar treatment.
I painted the impulse crystal and the nav deflector with an acrylic sapphire blue.
Did the inboard grilles with the same color, then used a black wash to bring out the lines in the grilles.
The impulse engines were painted in red, and then given a black wash as well.

http://s432.photobucket.com/albums/qq45/quaralane/Trek/Federation-non-Canon/Amazon-ISS-Breakstone/amazon-ISS-23.jpg

With luck, tomorrow I can get a coat of satin on her so I can start the task of decalling.
Holding off on painting some of the other details until I get the decals down and sealed.

Re: A Reliant Bash--ISS Amazon--WIP 03/17

Definitely going to take a LONG time with the aztecs, but here are a couple of progress pics:

This is about 2 1/2-3 hours of actual work, plus drying/setting time

Re: A Reliant Bash--ISS Amazon--WIP 03/23

It might take a lot of time, but it is going to look good when it is done. :D A question: What kind of paper do you use for decals? I have never printed out a decal before, and I have a Reliant on my build list. It looks like decals might be the way to go with it instead of painting.

Re: A Reliant Bash--ISS Amazon--WIP 03/23

Thanks, guys.

Grendels, I get my paper from decalpaper.com, and print on my Epson CX5000 using the "best photo" setting.
Give them a coat of sealer after that, and you should be good to go.

Re: A Reliant Bash--ISS Amazon--WIP 03/23

Thanks for the information, I have seen a few decal printing kits at hobby shops, but I have been hesitant to buy one. When I read the box, I got the feeling that the kits come with more than I need. I have a few really old models, and I know that if I try to use the decals, they just will fall apart. My plan is to get a good scan of them, and then print.

Re: A Reliant Bash--ISS Amazon--WIP 03/23

Just remember that you can't actually "print" white on clear decal paper
