Anyone have suggestions for camo netting for 1/48 scale tanks? Would Gauze work or is the net spacing just too big?

I'm thinking of working on a Cromwell and I want to throw some Hessian Tape Camouflage Netting on it.

Man I'm going 1/32 on armor. That's where all the good stuff is at.

You could try this stuff.
It would be useful for all different scales.

I have some of this somewhere, its material and the gaps are little sideways squares and the distance of the gaps are about a 1.5mm .

It looks pretty bendable? :)

DreamKnight,

how do you intend on using it? Will it be all 'rolled' up on the tank in a stowed fashion, or do you want to deploy it all opened up and stakes or something?

If it's all rolled up, you should be able to get away with gauze from a first aid kit, as the spacing wont be all that easy to see, especially if you are going to add small strips to it to portray the Hessian tape. Just don't make a perfectly neat roll, bunch it up all twisted and misshapen, these nets got pretty beat and frayed and wouldn't remain perfect. The crews wouldn't take their time with exact folding either if they were just going to throw it on the tank to move, or to help break up the tanks silhouette.

I know this is 1/35 and you're asking about 1/48 but it should give you an idea of how I mean by stowing it somewhat randomly.

Both. For the Cromwell, I'm thinking like how it's done in this pic, in the back, front and side turrets. But for the future tanks, I'm thinking of some tank have it draped over the turret and gun... ect.

Yeh I see that not if I bunch it up stowed. Wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

@java that would work for rolled up. I'm not sure about the hex shape to it if I were to drape it but I won't be draping it on the cromwell but I might on at US tank and in that case, if I add the "leafing" to the net, you might not be able to tell the hex shape.

OK. The fly net and gauze would work either way.

Is there more techniques for camo netting?

I use 4" square medical gauze, Further I use medical tape for the nylon and canvas web straps. Just set in into place with white glue/water mixture and paint.

I use the old-school scratchbuilder's material--cheesecloth. But it might have the same size weave as the gauze, so I don't know if that would work for you.
