1/16 Stug III Ausf.G

I recently started on my new project. This is my first time building a kit from Das Werk, looks like a quality product so far.
The kit comes with a partial interior, mostly the fighting compartment with the gun. Alot is left out. I found some aftermarket interior kits to help fill the void
 
My entire spare parts box is 1/35, so I also got some more aftermarket accessories...
AFV Modeller is a great resource for anyone looking for 1/16 German armour accessories. They messed up my order and sent me Sten guns instead of MP40s, but I think I'll use them anyway, add a little more interest to the project.
I'm a slow builder, so this is going to take me awhile...........

I'll be watching, I really like building in 1/16 when it comes to armor stuff. I'm getting to the point where the bigger parts are easier to work with and when the model is done it's more impressive on the shelf.

Will do sir, I agree about 1/16 , my 57 year old eyes like it alot better than the 1/35 I've always done. This is my second 1/16 build.

I got started on some of the interior parts........
I'm going to paint and weather as I build. The only access points to see into the interior are going to be the forward hatches and the removable roof of the fighting compartment. I know I'm going to end up doing more detailing, painting, and weathering than what will be actually visible in the end, but I'm having fun so why not?

Thanks to incompetence by a coworker, I got Thursday off from work. I put the time to good use by completing the installation of the AFV Modeller driver's compartment. It was a pretty good fit, the only issue was to modify the coolant hoses to fit around one of the supports for the gun, a minor inconvenience.


The only thing I don't like about this kit is the instrument panel. The instructions say to shim it up off the gearbox, but I think I'm going to add some sort of cage or rack for it as well. The backside just looks too plain.

Is there a PE kit you can get for those extra details? Pantherman

I don't know if there is a PE set for this model. I didn't come across one when looking for accessories for the build, but that doesn't mean one is not out there.

I hit a road bump this morning... .
The hinges of the operable front hatches hits the top of the brake drums of the AFV interior kit.
I considered losing the hinges and gluing them shut, but this is the only other access to view the interior after the removable roof. So I got the dremel and sanded down the top of the break drums, this won't be visible in the end.
Problem solved.

I'm finished with the interior of the lower hull for now, got paint on the under side of the hatches and the ammunition racks installed.
Starting the interior of the upper hull with the radio racks.
AFV included a paint scheme for the ammo. Even though I didn't follow it because I don't have those paints, I find it interesting and thought some folks here would find it interesting too.....

I think I'm finished with the radio racks.....I added some extra headphones I had left over from the King Tiger, and added some wiring, and some 1/35 scale maps which I think look

One thing I have a question about are seats for the loader and commander. The kit doesn't come with them, and since they supplied such nice radio racks I'm surprised the seats are absent.
Maybe Stug IIIs don't have them? I put my 1/16 scale figure inside and he is tall enough to see out hatches in standing position.
I'll have to research this, it's pretty cramped in there but its looks some folding seats mounted to the bulkhead would fit. My one book on Stugs has no interior pictures.

If I remember, I believe there were fold down seats. If you want to see interior shots, on youtube there is a channel called the chieftain. he does tours of armor interior and exterior and he has done a stug, I think it was a 4 but he also discussed the stug 3.

Just spent a few hours on YouTube, wow.
I've seen enough to give scratch building a couple folding seats a try.

Your interior looks fantastic! Hopefully with all the hatches open you'll be able to see the beautiful detail.

Good thing about this kit is nothing attaches to the roof and the sides. So I think I can leave the roof unglued and removable, that's my plan at this point.

Making progress slowly.........got the seats cobbled together, added some other bits and pieces to help the interior not look so empty. None of it is historically accurate, but I'm just trying to look believable. I found this brass paint by Atom and gave the shells a good wash with it. I think I like it, looks closer to the AFV guide anyway.

Started on the road wheels, tedious, but I'm glad it's not a Tiger or Panther!
