Star Trek 2009 Enterprise Revell 1/500

My deflector experiment was a success. Alot of people on this kit cut out light holes from the deflector housing and backlight the dish. While this looks good, it's not accurate, so I wanted to try to light the dish a different more screen accurate way. Firstly, I masked the spokes with Aztek...

Star Trek 2009 Enterprise Revell 1/500

So, following the black basing technique, I was trying to add a very subtle mottling effect to the hull for "weathering" since Federation vessels are so clean. I think nothing screams model like a broad uniform surface. Still, I over applied paint, and my mottling effect was nullified. :( I've...

Star Trek 2009 Enterprise Revell 1/500

So while I patiently await Gary's release of the TOS Enterprise color guide, I have put it on the back burner and started on the 2009 Enterprise. I HATED this ship the first time I saw it, but I've come to appreciate certain things about it, even if I'm still not 100% in love with it. From some...

    1/350 TOS Enterprise - WIP

Since I've been playing with making starship interior graphics, I figured I'd go full insanity. I made a bridge for the Revell 1:500 (though it's actually 1:1000) JJ Abrams Enterprise. I made the graphics in Photoshop and then printed them onto backlit film. I cut out the graphics, folded them...

    1/350 TOS Enterprise - WIP

It's in the works. I'm still trying to get all the artwork, backlit film, distribution, etc figured out. I'm almost there.

    1/350 TOS Enterprise - WIP

Had to draw it up in Photoshop. I'm a graphic designer by trade.

    1/350 TOS Enterprise - WIP

Didn't want to start a new thread for this, but I also wanted to try the window inserts for my Revell JJprise. I know the Revell model says it's 1:500 scale, but if you go with the official size, and also the very close saucer rim shot in Star Trek Beyond, Revell's model is actually 1:1000. So...

    1/350 TOS Enterprise - WIP

Ok, the bridge is done. PHEW! I never want to do that again.

    1/350 TOS Enterprise - WIP

Got the saucer grids filled (omg, never again), and all the outer hull primed. I wanted to start off by focusing on the ship's interior. I printed the ship's decks onto backlight film and the bridge control panels and monitors onto slide film. The effect is really nice.

Making starship window interiors with backlit film

Yep, That's where I got the idea.

Making starship window interiors with backlit film

I made up the artwork in high resolution so that it could be printed on a 35 mm slide and have sufficient detail at such a small size. Then I sent a PDF file of that artwork to Express Slides who imaged my artwork onto the slides with a film recorder. Both were free as you get 2 free samples...

Making starship window interiors with backlit film

Thought you guys might like this too. I was able to get bridge consoles and control panels printed onto slide film. These will look much better backlit than decals would. The color is vibrant and rich.

Making starship window interiors with backlit film

Last weekend I did some artwork of the TOS and JJprise corridors in Photoshop to put behind my model's windows so it wasn't just a white void. I wanted to get the sense of something in there. First I had simply gone to FedEx Office and had them print my window patterns on transparency...

Bandai Resistance X-wing T-70 (Force Awakens)

What brands of paint to do you use? It's really just as simple of a very slight off-white gray color for the main hull, and then mix a bit of white with blue for the blue. A medium gray for the wing stripes. Silver for the engine nozzles. Pretty straight forward.

Bandai First Order TIE Fighter 1/72 (Force Awakens)

Hey guys. After many requests on how I paint my pilot figures, I've uploaded this video tutorial. I hope you enjoy it. Please leave any comments or questions below. Also if you have any suggestions for future tutorials, let me know. Thanks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKomOdHI6tY Tutorial...

Bandai First Order TIE Fighter 1/72 (Force Awakens)

I haven't made much more progress on this build because I got a bit sidetracked. A few people have asked me how I paint my pilot figures on my starfighters. That inspired me to film a tutorial on my methods for painting them. The paints, thinners, brushes, etc that I use. Here is a little tease...

Bandai First Order TIE Fighter 1/72 (Force Awakens)

As always I start with painting the pilot figures. Unfortunately, I dropped the seated pilot figure down the sink and he's gone for good...heh. Fortunately, a kind modeler says he doesn't use his pilot figures, and is sending me a replacement. When the seated one gets here, I'll paint him up too.

As always, I do a composite image with my final build.
