Great idea for the base. What did you use for the craters?

You could probably use 18 gauge floral wire wrapped with 22-24 gauge aluminum wire for a few of them. Floral wire is in the floral section, obviously, but the aluminum wire's in the bead/jewelry area...

What color did you use around the cockpit? (the orange part) I like it.

Has anyone heard of or purchased tools from Mission Models? http://www.missionmodels.com/product.php?productid=16465&cat=313&page=1 These micro-chisels look promising for cutting out windows, but I've never heard of this company before.

Thanks Jimi! I've been tempted to chuck it in the bin, but I remembered how much it's taught me. It's like bootcamp. If you make it to the end, there's no obstacle you can't overcome.

Re: NYLON GAG MK 1? Question: What are you going to do with it when it's finished? Presumably, you're doing this for fun - the joy of building - but you're creating a work of art. Are there any local museums or galleries that might be interested in exhibiting it?

Got the cockpit hatch done last night. I wasn't how to scribe a circle without a template, but it turns out that the opening in the top section of the hull is a perfect fit. Tape the hatch to the inside of the ship, and voila! The molded shapes at the top aren't symmetrical. I patched it...

Maybe it's passing through an asteroid field? You could use lava rocks, which are lightweight & easy to drill, and mount them to the base at varying heights. ...or maybe debris from a battle?

Good to know. What about the cab, is that fixed or do you have the option of adjusting the angle or direction? ...If you wanted it to look down, for example.

Looks like a fun challenge, and the clear base is a nice feature.

UPDATES The solar panels are just about done. I won't know for sure until they've been primed. You'll noticed I decided not to rebuild the modules on the exterior. Given the scale and the quality of the kit, it wasn't worth the effort. The holes for the laser turrets have been drilled and...

Dremels are great tools. I've got a 400 XPR and a Mini-Mite from yesteryear, but I haven't found much use for them in modelling. Even at the lowest setting (5,000 RPM) they tend to melt and chew their way through styrene. ...but maybe that's just me.
