1:48 Revell A-10 Warthog... A Noob Comes of Age

Thanks, fumble. My progress was slowed by life and illness. I got pretty sick and am still not 100% yet. I am trying to fill some seam lines and and get it looking as good as I can. The wing seams, roots, and the gear cowlings needed work. So, progress has been slow. My eyes get tired and...

Not so Accurate Miniatures RAF Mk1 pony

How did you get that Mr. Surfacer so think? I have the same stuff and it goes on thin. Am I doing it wrong?

    1:72 CC-130 H Hercules (Italeri)

I'd like to build a Herc one of these days, so I am watching with interest. Nice job so far!

1:48 Revell A-10 Warthog... A Noob Comes of Age

Myke, Glorfindel, see below and let me know what you think about the scribing versus raised panel lines. I got a tool for scribing from Bare Metal Foil that works better than a sewing needle in a pin vise. It would be a lot of work, especially since I installed the wings and tail. Opinions...

    Italeri 1/48 A-10 Thunderbolt II

That plane is money! Good job, Adam. I hope mine looks half as good and I will be so stoked. That kit looks like it has very nice detail. Your preshading looks great, too. Mad props!!!

1:48 Revell A-10 Warthog... A Noob Comes of Age

So, this is the beginning. I got the cockpit done, installed and my clamp job solved the problem with the fit. Just in case, I dry fitted the canopy and guess what I figured out! It turns out that this build only allows an open canopy. I'm a little bummed because I like a closed canopy...

Revell 1:48 F/A-18 Super Hornet build... My noob adventures

That sounds good. What would that entail? I would love it, especially if it meant that more experienced members would chime in and offer tips or suggestions. I very much appreciate all the SMA love, but I think it would be cool if people would also give some advice, too. That's one of the...

Revell 1:48 F/A-18 Super Hornet build... My noob adventures

Myke, Adam, Panzerman: Thanks for the kind words. Truly, I like my plane, really. I just have been so inspired and awed by some of the builds I've seen here that I want to do better is all. I learned so much while building this and I'm still learning. Mostly, I had a great time and I'm...

1:48 Revell A-10 Warthog... A Noob Comes of Age

My new build: My goal is to make less mistakes. I would like it if I managed to put this together without ugly glue blemishes and with improvement in my ability to deal with seams. So far, I have painted the pilot and cockpit plus the front gear well. That is part of the starting...

Revell 1:48 F/A-18 Super Hornet build... My noob adventures

The build is done. ;D I got a final coat of matt varnish on her and called it a wrapped build. For the most part, I'm happy with it. In a way, it's the best model I've ever built. But, I screwed up some things, too. I didn't learn until halfway through to use the Touch and Flow and plastic...

Revell 1:48 F/A-18 Super Hornet build... My noob adventures

Thanks, Panzerman. My build is not THAT clean, but it's decent, I think. It's almost done now. I got the decals on and it's now drying with a coat of Future. I will try to do some weathering/panel lines tomorrow, then put a coat of matte varnish on it to seal the deal. I'll try to post some...

Revell 1:48 F/A-18 Super Hornet build... My noob adventures

Ha! Actually, I did use one, but they applied it to my daughter's model car at it was more expensive. (She wanted to try a glue model, so I had to say yes.) The P-38 was under $20. :)

    Italeri 1/48 A-10 Thunderbolt II

Slowly. I primed a lot of the parts on the sprues. And, I put together my pilot and painted him. But, otherwise, between the F-18 and the derby car, I've had my hands full. The A-10 will become the priority soon, though. So, I am enjoying watching this build.

    New WIP: 1/32 Hasegawa P-40K, SAAF, 2Sqn, 1943

This is one of the most entertainingly written WIPs I've seen yet! I feel like I just got tutored! Well done! I hope to see more like this. :)

    Italeri 1/48 A-10 Thunderbolt II

What did you use to prime it? I noticed you have the landing gear on without the wheels. Do the gear and wells get painted gloss white? Will you mask those off when painting the body color?

Revell 1:48 F/A-18 Super Hornet build... My noob adventures

Thanks for the compliments, Myke and Quaralane. I got some Future on it the other night. I used a regular brush per advice at Swanny's Models. By only handling it with a finger in the afterburners and on the front landing gear, I was able to get top and bottom done in the same night. I have...
