Well, I'm about to cut the door windows to have them rolled down, and as I'm examining them while still on the clear sprue, a fault in the windshield/windscreen catches the light. 😟

Looks like I'll need to make my own.

Luckily, the window seems to be a flat plane, so I just need to worry about scribing the shape.
Of course, since it will have a thickness closer to scale, I'll have to do the same for the door windows.

Take a paper or card template and cut with a sharp pair of scissors, I use curved ones sometimes used for finger nails! I use Revell Clear Cement, used also for headlight lenses.

Well I didn't need to raid my supply of clear packaging plastic... I had a few sheets of clear Evergreen in the stash to use.
Since I had the kit provided windows, I used them to scribe the shapes on the clear.
As Pat suggested, I used sharp little scissors to cut, slightly oversize, so that any deformation/discoloration would be outside of the part...
Then I used 4k grit foam sanding pad to work down to the scribed line, followed by 10k grit glass file to polish up the edges so that they'd be clear.
I glued them in with my trusty Kristal Klear, and now I wait for the glue to clarify.
Tomorrow, it may require a fine black line along the edge, at the door.

Background figure observing the work has been smoking his head off! 😂

Looks cool. What did use to make the yellow paint look worn out around the windshield and on the hood?
Thanks.
Kind of an additive process, it all adds up.
  • primer: Army Painter rattle can Desert Yellow
  • Brush: Paints cut with a satin glazing liquid to help blend
  • Base: AK 11327 RAL 8000
  • Then blended in slightly darker and lighter tones to give it volume.
  • Filter: Then tied all together with AK Light Brown for desert yellow
  • The darker 'worn' patches are AK 7021 Dunkelgrau 'lightly drybrushed' (thinking that the original body colour would start coming through) ... This was an afterthought, it would have been better if I'd used it all over as primer.
  • Minor chipping: with fine brush, trying to replicate scuffed edges of more solid Grey with MEDIUM sand colour, AK 11034, and a few scuffs here and there.
  • In the bed I used weathering pencils to rough it up a bit even though it will be mostly hidden.
  • RUST: just a hint in a few places, using Vallejo light rust wash.
  • Bare metal: again in a very few spots, on edges that would be worn, just a hint of Tamiya weathering Master 'titanium' applied with a sponge applicator.
  • The whole thing airbrushed with AK desert effects
  • Sealed with AK Ultra Matte
  • Another super light dusting of desert effects to dust up the windows once installed
  • A light spraying of wheels and rocker panels with AK earth effects.
Now I'll let it sit, while I consider if it needs anything else!

That's a skill
Seems complicated, but I just think if it as a recipe, to practice, to adjust, to modify.
I learned each step on a different model, and it didn't always work out...

So I really encourage you to pick an effect you like suited to your next build, maybe find a YouTube vid, and try it out!

Thanks! I feel like improvements to my figure painting has been slow and incremental... For now, uniforms and accessories are acrylic, with flesh in oils over an acrylic base.

Pipe guy looks like he's outta the Sears catalogue! 🤭

Compared to most styrene kit figures, the crispness of 3D printed ones makes a great starting point.
That being said, I'm intrigued by the whole figure sculpting thing... Those guys are magicians!

"Sears catalog" - you dated yourself!

Pity the kids today, everything instantaneous, not knowing the anticipation of getting that Sears or Eaton's catalogue, delivered to the front door; never mind the hours pouring over the toy section, leaving dog ears in the best pages!
Yes. We would circle all the toys we wanted every Christmas. I remember making it a point to be more obedient and get in less trouble every time we got that catalog!
