I worked as a machinist for about 40 years of my life. I've been retired for 3 years, now. As a machinist in the aerospace industry, attention to detail was a daily requirement. Hopefully that will serve me well as I assemble my first model in 30-40 years! The last two models I did were inspired by my job, an F-16 and an F-14. I got them done and they were mediocre at best. But, this time around, I plan to give my full attention to my project and really take my time. We shall see if this hobby is for me, now that I am older!

I've been looking at photos on here of people's finished projects. Wow, there are a lot of you who are truly artists! I think I'm out of my league! I'm going to keep dreaming that my project will look anywhere near as good as everyone else's work! With enough TLC, maybe I can come close? Time will tell

We like the good, the bad and the ugly here. As well as the weird and wonderful.

If you have fun building a kit then it really doesn't matter what it looks like.

I only started modeling 5 years ago and think I may have improved slightly but to be honest, it's just a bit of fun and stress relief for me so if the model turns out something similar to the box then that's a bonus. Pantherman

That's great. Don't forget that there is a 'Search' function in top right corner which works pretty well, as well as the 'similar threads' listing below...
As you might imagine, there are certain topics, and questions, that have been perennial favorites over the years, with a steady stream of folks getting back into the hobby.

Welcome to the group. I started up about 8 months ago, I try to improve with each project and you will see yourself improve. Something I did was to build the same model that I built at the beginning and the difference was easy to see. It's a bit of a fun way to see your progress. YouTube has a lot of tutorials.

No Way! Build a few, post them up, ask some questions and get some advice and then I'm sure you'll be turning out stuff you're more than pleased with. What're you going to start off with?

I'm just getting started on a 1/600 Revelle USS Enterprise. It's going to take me a while because I'm trying not to make any mistakes if I can help it. I just spent a few hours painting the backsides of the windows. Tedious! I had to walk away before I ended up crosseyed! Lol

Not to be discouraging, but mistakes are inevitable. I have often said that mastering this hobby consists primarily of learning how to fix one's mistakes so it looks like they never happened—and having fun doing it. Welcome to the best addiction in the world!

Thanks! Oh, believe me, I know! I just meant that I want to do my best to minimize them as much as I can.
